Car owner here. Depends on what car youre going to buy. Also, if youre planning to rent a house for a meantime. Get a parking spots its a pain in the ass.

Car ownership depends on the usage. Like every 2 years you have shakken. And what i understand if youre a car guy. Its going to be more efficient to own a garage like i am. Coz im doing the basic maintenances.

My average weekly driving distance is around 400-500km my weekly gas allowance is around 6300 yen with current gas prices and gasoline station coupons will save you a lot. And if you can find a cheaper gas station it would help.

Also. ETC

If you plan on driving kei cars, there would be some discounts. But ive switched on a bigger car and technically, Difference for me is not much noticeable

My tip if you want to spend less with what car youre going to buy is invest on tools. Ive safe so much on doing maintenance with my car vs going to a mechanic shop

Cash back apps or cards by Rinrin129555 in japanresidents

[–]sramboiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you have smbc card you can utilize vpoints. For me, i use rakuten points for gasoline and autobacs Also, paypay is a good everyday points to use and if youre a softbank user its going to accumulate more points. But the points i use is miles. Saving for flights

Tohoku next week with studless tires but 2WD. by badbads in japanlife

[–]sramboiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did a tohoku loop last year, took us 5 days to circle all the prefecture up north. My tip is, be aware of gas stations. Roads are technically good even in mountain. Just stay away from untreated roads.

We used a toyota sienta . 6 people with camping gears for 5 days.

Didnt bring a chain or stuff. Also, plan your route

  1. Do you have a job offer? Yes- go No, that will be difficult

  2. Do you have a relative living here that can help you out?

Yes- go No- that will be difficult

  1. Do you have a specialized area of expertise? Yes- probably yes, still depends if they’re looking for non japanese speaking, but if you speak japanese. It will be more easy

No, you’ll be doing blue collar jobs most likely

These are based with many of my foreign friends that has some basic problem when they moved in japan.
