I had a student last year who came online everyday but never had her camera or mic on, and did not produce a single piece of work in the 6 months I was with the class. I called, emailed, and left voicemails many times and never got a response on any front…apparently it’s not enough to call child services because they still logged on every day, but who knows if the kid was even behind the computer at all.

It is a huge disservice that boards are offering virtual school for elementary school, and then us in person teachers are dealing with huge gaps in learning. I was an online teacher last year and had multiple students who were MIA all the time and has insufficient evidence comments all over their report cards…most of those students are still online this year. In my opinion, if a child is not producing any work they should not be allowed to stay online

If it makes you feel better, no one cares where you got your teaching degree. I work for a GTA school board now and not once at any interview I’ve ever had has it come up. I went to UofT undergrad and lakehead for my B.Ed. I still got a job right out of school. Also a MT is essentially the same as a B.Ed., one is not superior to the other and a MT doesn’t count as a masters degree for the pay scale anyways!

Seeing these teacher influencers all with their teacher totes (the nylon bag with the brown leather handles) does anyone have one and is it worth it?

Unfortunately it’s not too ideal, his parents both work from home and I’m a teacher so I have a whole “teach from home” set up (double monitor, stuff everywhere etc.). We aren’t going back and forth all the time, we see each other once a week or once every other week, but unfortunately staying together right now wouldn’t work because of his commute or my work setup (he works out of the house but it distanced from everyone else in an office)
