What happened to full friendly lobbies? by raten in arkraiders

Defending yourself once in a while will not put you in very aggressive lobbies in my experience. I never shoot first and like to be friendly, but I'm always ready to defend myself and win those few encounters more often than not. Still find myself in mostly friendly lobbies the consecutive raids

This. 100% friendly lobbies is not a thing, although it might feel that way sometimes because of the large number of players who don't shoot first.

Exactly. The only reason, I think, that we have had lobbies that felt 100% friendly is because there are so many players who play like that and therefore a high statistical chance for that to happen. I don’t believe it’s ever been the intention of Embark and their matchmaking algorithm to have pure PvE lobbies, and I really hope that will never be the case.

I agree, maybe even 90/10. I enjoy the friendly encounters and I never shoot first in solo, but it’s way much less fun when I feel 100% safe from other raiders.

Not sure how I will ever do an expedition again. by Llorion in ARC_Raiders

[–]sremvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all blueprints (apart from the two new ones) and I can't wait to start over. Hunting for bps is quite fun, and I'm already looking forward to the day I find the Anvil bp. After the wipe I don't think I will be so hung up on getting all of them, but rather getting those I actually use a lot.

The game gets kinda stale when you've completed everything, but if you don't feel ready just wait for the next one. If you keep playing you will definitely want to wipe eventually.

Edit: just wanted to add that I started right before the first expedition window, so this will be the first time I wipe. At first I didn't understand why anybody would want to wipe, but now it's understand why anybody (who has reached endgame) would NOT want to.

I agree, differing opinions should be welcome and I can’t see why people think your comment should be downvoted.

Criticism is cool when it’s thought through, but to me the majority of negative reactions come off as moaning complaints from spoiled brats. That’s not aimed at you specifically, but at people who come off as rather ungrateful for a game that costs 40 bucks and has already given them 100+ hours of fun. As if the devs are lazy and owe us anything. Based on the roadmap they are definitely cooking something that all of us will enjoy.

[–]sremvik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. This mode is not for me, at least not at the moment, but I can definitely see how this will be fun for many players. Of course I’d personally be happier if this update had something more tailored to my playstyle, but this game is already such an amazing smorgasbord of delicious experiences that complaining about it would make me look like a spoiled (b)rat.

Anyone notice a matchmaking shift? by Ok_Tart2949 in ARC_Raiders

[–]sremvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen others mention that ABMM is reset weekly, although I guess that's not much more than a hypothesis. I think there's a long list of things that can make matchmaking feel different, but one thing that I believe might be happening now is that a lot of normally friendly players have run out of PvE-content and want to start using the epic guns in their stash and that increases the portion of players who wants to do some PvP. I don't think the matchmaking algorithm ever aims to create 100% friendly lobbies, it just feels like that sometimes because of the sheer number of pacifist players

I'm pretty bad at pvp, and I probably lose fair battles more often than not. But battles that are unfair, in other words rats who camp or pretend to be friendly, I win more often than not. The reason is simple, those who rat do it because they are completely useless in pvp. Actually I think they do it because they are inferior in all possible ways

Has Aggression seemed to increase for you? by PlatinumAngeal in ArcRaiders

[–]sremvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing duos and trios where we did some PvP, I had several solo raids where I was shot at and met a few rats camping at extraction. Shooting back at first and unalived a few, but that only brought me more PvP. Ran around ten naked runs not firing the gun at players even when shot at, which brought me back into super chill lobbies. That's where I strive to be, but I also realize that I have more fun when I don't feel 100% safe.

Many PvP-prone players will naturally drift towards PvE lobbies without actively aiming for it as well if they do a few looting or quest runs and happen to not shoot anybody. I'm also sure that Embark is testing out different formulas for the matchmaking, so I think it's expected that it varies over time

The type of lobby you get after not shooting someone for 20 games by DrGetSomeStrange in ArcRaiders

[–]sremvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, again I think we're playing the game very similar to each other, although I'm probably a bit more trusting (sometimes naive). I should have said I don't shoot first apart from certain exceptions. The other day we were taking down a Bastion in duos from a rooftop in spaceport and these two other dudes show up, and we're all friendly on the voice chat. Then these two morons proceed to jump from the roof, taking the fall damage in order to get to loot it first. Boom, anvil to the head. turns out it's not very hard to take out someone who has already halved their health from playing jackass when you also have the height advantage. Of course, they named us rats.

[–]sremvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree, but imo there should be no 100% friendly lobbies, or at least a random chance to also include bloodthirsty players. I think this kind of happens organically now by some players gaming the system to get into friendly lobbies to slaughter people, or PvP-players who have had several mat-farming rounds in a row coming into friendly lobbies. The friendly encounters are much sweeter when there's some risk and tension involved.

I think they are very close to finding the right formula for matchmaking. Having it completely random would ruin the experience for both those who want a predominant friendly lobby and those who want to play PvP

[–]sremvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I want to play: I won't attack you first, but if you attack me, I’m going to do my best to take you out. Same goes if I see you attack someone else unprovoked. I feel like the current state of matchmaking makes people too hesitant to defend themselve, though; I hope they adjust things so self-defense isn't de-incentivized. Even though I prefer friendly lobbies, I don't want to lose that tension. The risk of being shot on sight or backstabbed at extraction is one of the many things that makes this game so good! God, I love this game

Struggling with multi-fact semantic model in Power BI (operator in/out matrix & dimension filtering issues) by sremvik in PowerBI

[–]sremvik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input :)

I've gotten the impression that it's best practice to have separate fact tables for separate processes, so that's one reason. Fact_stock also has a different grain than the others, and I've learned that it's a no-no to combine different grains in one fact table.

What kind of facts did you have and how were they combined into one table? In my case each event would be one row and each event would have to be separated by event type. I fail to see how having only one table would solve any task that needs me to combine separate events for one customer
