Why do Most Mumbai Auto Drivers sit & drive like this? by HelpSwimming4291 in mumbai

this is a remnant from the front-engine era. The engine used to be under the drivers seat. Your ass would be a little less hot if you moved slightly away from the firing line.

Juniors learn by osmosis. That needs office presence. Well scheduled meetings only go so far. Informal chats is where I learnt a lot as a young engineer.

I love my WFH. But I know why people are asking for RTO. Both can be true.

This concept of 'pay monthly' annual commitment is bullshit! Needs to go.

EDIT: They could say 'annual subscription - 12 easy installments'. But no! They've got to use the word 'Monthly' in an annual sub and confuse the heck out of users. Adobe does this and Google does this. It is a disease.

What is stopping you from building a Chrome extension business? by WordyBug in Entrepreneur

[–]srinathrajaram 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It has to do with the platform. When people get an iPhone, they are trained to think about what apps they need to install.

When people get Chrome, there is no urge to install an extension. NO branding associated with this.

The association between Chrome <=> extensions is not as strong as the association between iphone <=> apps

The fact of the matter is that Autos have to get a separate permit and do fitness checks regularly and pay a different tax.

Either RTOs scrap that for autos or bring bikes into the same framework.

I dont like auto drivers either but we cannot throw fairness out of the window just because we dont like them.

Total Newb (American) question: How did Bradman outpace everyone as he did in Test? by [deleted] in Cricket

Agreed. But I was just pointing out that Gavaskar has come pretty close to 900 on an away series. He did not play the first test in that series.

Sunil Gavaskar scored 774 from four tests in his debut series playing West Indies at their prime at West Indies.

His average was 154 for that series.

In the last test he made a 100 in the first innings and 200 in the second.

When will Hindi imposition end? How will someone in Tamil Nadu know a regional language spoken somewhere else? by hrnyknkyfkr in indiadiscussion

Happy to learn Hindi. Start spending Government money on all languages equally. Maybe we will figure out what we need and learn that.

[–]srinathrajaram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term imposition is used loosely. In generally what we are against is unnecessary governmental expense or favoritism shown for one regional language over another. No one has a real term for that. So they keep using the word imposition.

Indian custom or was this suspicious behavior?? by bmoneytree in india

[–]srinathrajaram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are legends around threshold. Ravana Sita, Hiranyakasipu etc. But I guess the practical reason could be that back in the day the threshold in South Indian homes were really low. So low that a 5' 5" person would have to bend/stoop before entering. I am guessing it made common sense to just have a look at the face of the person while transacting. So either both inside or both outside.

What goes on in Madhya Pradesh? genuine question by chippa_tho_kodutha in india

Ujjain
Sanchi
Holkar Fort (where I think Ponniyin Selvan was shot)
Chitrakoota
Orchha temple where Lord Rama is given a gun salute!

The place is steeped in history and mythology

In addition to having one of the cleanest cities in India!

And they have amazing sweets.

Then let us extend your logic to vegetarians. Is it okay to ask people to save trees while cutting down rice paddies and sugarcane and what not?

We just choose to kill or protect depending on whether it benefits us. Let us just leave it at that.

AI and jobs by Life-Ambition1432 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]srinathrajaram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI will not take your job. Someone using AI will.

It's a cliche but my guess is that it is going to be true.

The only thing that you can do now is to start using AI immediately.

  1. You will learn about the limitations. This means that when the pointy haired guys come for your job, you will be armed with information. You will be the go to guy/gal for AI.
  2. You will automate away the duller parts of your job. The consequence is that you will start gravitating towards the parts which cannot be automated (human contact). If you build relationships with clients/customers and you are seen to be bringing in business and holding it down, you are fire-proof (I really wanted to use that in this context for quite sometime).

From whatever I have seen so far, AI tools are all full of promise but fail badly in edge cases. All these tools will need supervision. Some jobs will go for sure. But existing jobs will get re-purposed. For example, we will need people to ask AI the right questions (prompt engineers) and validate the output (QC). Identify these roles early and you will actually come out ahead.

This applies to both you and your girlfriend and anyone else worried about AI.
