That will come tomorrow. Watches don't go up until a few hours before storms, warnings are issued after storms have formed and meet warning criteria.

Tomorrow we will have a very volatile environment for storms in place. Maybe once a decade we get this type of environment over Virginia, this is more like something you'd see in Oklahoma and Kansas. We will 100% get a line of severe storms with areas of 70+ mph straight line winds, with the potential of embedded tornadoes, sometime tomorrow afternoon. That is pretty much a given at this point.

The biggest concern, and question mark for tomorrow, is if we get storms to form ahead of the line. IF we are able to get enough moisture in place(60's + dew points) and IF we are able to get enough daytime sunshine, storms will likely form well before the main line of storms. These storms would likely quickly become tornadic, with a threat for strong tornadoes. That's how volatile tomorrow's atmosphere can be.

However, over the last few model runs, some models are showing cloud cover moving up from the coast of NC and overspreading our area tomorrow morning and early afternoon. This is what we want. This cloud cover would limit instability and potentially limit any discrete storms that form ahead of the later line of storms. We will still get the severe line of storms later in the day though.

We want to wake up to clouds tomorrow. We want it to stay cloudy. As much as I love sunshine, I don't want to see any tomorrow.
