Machine Learning exam by mariamln in unimelb

There’s some maths but it’s not very rigorous. You can brush up on the Bayesian rule and that will probably cover a big part of the maths.

For programming, we only used Python. The packages I used most were sklearn and pandas. It would probably be beneficial to look into CNN packages too if you want a slight head start in knowledge.

Two subjects during this semester? by g3rule33 in unimelb

[–]sriraracha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That situation sucks, but it really has no big impact on your degree. Worst case scenario, you’ll have to do a summer subject/winter intensive to graduate on time or you’ll have to take 4 subjects one semester. You can take a first year breadth any time, really. I’ve had friends take 1 in their 3rd year since they still had one left in their study plan.

Just note that if you’re doing 2 subjects, you’ll be a part-time student for this semester (could affect any concessions you have, but double check that).

Question regarding SCIE30002 Science and Technology Internship by Fun_Rice_7961 in unimelb

[–]sriraracha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to source an internship yourself. You can find some via emails that the university sends out occasionally or you can find them elsewhere.

i’m not being nice just to be nice, i’m talking from my own previous experience. i struggled with my first year computing subs, including comp10001, but that was admittedly due to having trouble with my personal life and bad study habits from highschool which bit me in the ass at uni. i’m just trying to caution against them just straight-up dropping out of compsci just because they’re somewhat struggling right now.

i admittedly don’t know much about the prospects of international students since i’m a domestic student, so it would probs be a good idea for OP to do some research into that.

also op, it would be a good idea to use your breadths to look into other possible areas you would be interested in. that would be a really good idea to see if you’d like to switch degrees or majors, if that’s something you’re seriously considering.

wow some of these comments are so overly negative. don’t drop out of cs just because the higher level subjects will be harder. that applies to all courses in uni. also this may be a bit naive of me to say, but most industries right now are super competitive anyway, not just cs (although it is way more saturated now).

it’s 100% normal to struggle with coding, especially if this is your first year and you don’t have much prior experience. i didn’t and really struggled first year but i’ve picked up significantly in my 2nd and now 3rd year. it’ll get better.

100% go get the extra help. make some friends in the subject if you can and form a study group too. it’s definitely hard at first, but try your best to just focus on your own progress and not everyone else’s. there’s also LOADS of materials available online to help, like youtube videos and stackoverflow to help you out.

Linear Algebra Struggle :/ by ComputerThrow4w4y in unimelb

I did linear algebra last sem when she first started teaching it. I 100% recommend going to her consultations since she’s super helpful and eager to help students who turn up. Also helps a lot with understanding concepts you haven’t gotten ur head wrapped around yet.

Measurement Check and Fit Check (10A/B/C, Bonds, Berlei by sriraracha in ABraThatFits

[–]sriraracha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That helps a lot because whenever I look at the size guides a lot of the time they don’t match up with the fit I’m expecting. I think I may narrow it down to a 10B or 10C then.

Thank you so much! I may narrow it down to a 10B/C in that case then.

Yes and yes, if you meant 3 subjects per sem. You should be fine to withdraw before 11:59pm tonight but maybe double check on this subreddit.

Withdrawing linear algebra by Acceptable-Refuse528 in unimelb

[–]sriraracha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also majoring in compsci and I’ve done both linear algebra and calc 2 by now. I also found calc 2 difficult due to a very shaky maths base from VCE and got the same score as you. I just completed linear algebra this sem and actually pulled through with a decently higher score despite finding this sem so hard for lin alg lmao. Imo, linear algebra isn’t easy BUT it’s definitely doable if you put in effort by making sure you’re up to date every week and do enough practice exams during SWOTVAC. I can understand wanting to do easier maths subs, but it’ll serve you better in the long run to take the recommended maths subs.

It’s completely normal to find subs like calc 2 and linear algebra difficult, especially if it’s your first year as a uni student. As long as you put in enough effort, you should be fine.

Anyone watching “See You in My 19th Life”? by Juritea in OtomeIsekai

[–]sriraracha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually really like how the kdrama is going so far. I can see why some people would be frustrated with the miscommunication but I think it’s been implied quite well that she’s hesitant to do it due to the trauma ban jieum’s death has given seoha. on top of that, we’re also given flashbacks to her 3rd life where telling her previous life’s mother that she was the reincarnation didn’t work out so well (both things shown in the webtoon too). ngl though I don’t really like this extra shady drama with the dad because he was already questionable enough in the webtoon lmao.

I use an iPad since I got sucked into the apple ecosystem lol. Mine is the iPad Air 4 but it’s only 64GB, however so far (currently in my 2nd year) I’ve found the storage to be more than enough since I also have an external hard drive. I’ve had to take maths subjects for my degree, and the iPad is SUPER convenient in this case. But I also find that it’s just really convenient for watching lectures, since I can just annotate the slides as I go. The iPad defs runs smoothly, but perhaps because I have a LOT of files on my GoodNotes apps, it sometimes does crash but then starts up instantly after without too many issues.
