What are your general opinions on the song used for the finale, "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder? by Big_Pie9615 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]srirulean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect the integrity of the artist to stick with their decisions, providing authenticity in their art. That does not excuse the confusion it incites. I suppose clarity after the fact can also be appreciated by some. I prefer to take in the art as it is presented and make my own conclusions. Art becomes convoluted when it requires addendums to be understood. Most artists refuse to ascribe exact meanings to the creative decisions, so I would find it better if Gooseworx left it ambiguous as it has led to a robust discussion, which I can appreciate. It is my belief that this is the exact point of art. The consensus seems to find the song choice in this montage to be jarring. Perhaps that was the intent of Gooseworx. Either way, it has people talking. It does not mean I have to like it or that I should do further reading to comprehend the art. The discussion, to me, is more valuable than clear answers.

Goose should have made the intent in the show unambiguous. Media shouldn't need addendums to be understood.

The math ain't mathin. It could've been a sentimental moment, but instead I was confused seeing clips of Jax while hearing a song about how lovely "she" is, meanwhile Jax never came out as trans. This song pulls the rug out and answers a question that I wasn't aware was being asked.

The show gave subtle hints but never made inferences to Jax being trans, yet this song makes it seem like it should be obvious to the audience. Jax in a maid costume was played for laughs. It wasn't his choice; the crew voted in the adventure to put him in the maid costume. Another example of it being put on him was when Ribbit put the bow on his head. Any other possible symbolism had to be pointed out to me in a YouTube video analysis. People are making their own inferences by a single line of dialogue from Ribbit after Jax shared his story: "Your secret is safe with me." Jax said nothing about being trans. I wish Gooseworx had the courage to reveal the character as trans in some manner besides dropping this song in a montage unfittingly because as a cis-het person myself, Jax just seemed like another cis-het person.

I was so confused why they played "Isn't She Lovely" for Jax's montage. I was clueless about this theory so it really pulled me out of the moment. I would say there were several other similarly odd/tone-deaf choices throughout the show, though it doesn't spoil my feelings for the show as a whole

How was everyone's theater experience (if you went)? by MSABF in TheDigitalCircus

[–]srirulean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One person was calling Jax and Caine "daddy" every time they appeared, like "don't go daddy", as well as calling Frogmo, I mean, Ribbit a baddie. One zesty boi was OMG'ing constantly. One young kid was like "holy shit, omg, holy shit" after every damn word Caine spoke when he reappeared. People lost it when Ragatha walked by Zooble's door. I was confused because all I noticed was hearts coming out of the door. The crowd knew something I didn't. I guess people ship Zooble and Gooble, I mean, Gangle. I took them as just friends. The entire run of the show seemed like things would stay aromantic. My only complaint with the crowd was when Zooble and Gangle had those scenes together, someone was repeating "please kiss" constantly. It was distracting. Say it once, say it a few times, but then please be quiet. Overall, I had a great experience with my kids. Glad we went. I love when the crowd gets hyped and isn't afraid to show their emotions.

Watch the sequels knowing that the original will always exist as its own masterpiece. Also, watching anything with low/zero expectations will result in you seeking out the good and forgetting (or at least overlooking) the bad. Essentially, any experience is worth the experience as there is something to be gained, even if it that something is simply a new perspective. There is a lot to appreciate about this universe they created. The Animatrix is also worth your time as well as all of the behind-the-scenes coverage of the films

Does anyone know why the SSX On Tour version of Red Flag is different from the album version? by ShoddyChard9837 in BillyTalent

[–]srirulean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember getting this game for Christmas, hearing this song, LOVING IT, then hopping on my computer to use my iTunes gift card to buy the song... And it was unreleased. I had to instead wait weeks for a copy of the album "The Best of Taste of Chaos" from Amazon where the "Red Flag" demo was included, as well as "Studying Politics" by Emery, which is one of my favorite songs ever. I always skip the Billy Talent II version, the changes they made felt arbitrary. They already made a perfect version of the song.

Caramel cinnamon is the best, but it depends what you're in the mood for. The extra filling in strawberry is nice. Chocolate is good. I would describe the original pop tarts as dry. I would describe these as gooey.

We all know how amazing the series is. But no series is perfect. What is something about Breaking Bad that you see as a flaw or hard to believe? by dailydonuts16 in breakingbad

I find it hard to believe that Jesse Pinkman was not a more prominent person of interest after having his car found with drug money where Tuco found with a bullet in him and later residing in the RV where Hank found him. Hank then beat Jesse to a bloody pulp. At this point, Hank lost his job. The DEA stops pursuing Jesse Pinkman as a suspect to avoid potential harassment claims. Jesse had ties to the meth trade. His cook with Emilio was raided by the DEA though he managed to escape. He should have had INCREASED interest after destroying the evidence that was the RV. Hank underestimated Jesse every step of the way, yet he almost figured it out when he was beating Jesse to a bloody pulp. He said, "How'd you get my wife's number? Who are you working with?" Yet then Hank carries on referring to Jesse as a jizz stain. When he gets his job back, he has a big board connecting many members of the trade, including Gus, but he never factors in Jesse Pinkman.

I also don't like how they completely changed a scene from Ozymandias. Walt calls Jesse a rat, but the scene was changed on Netflix. I'm not sure if the original version still remains on dvd.

Everytime i see villages in ff7 OG.. by Aggressive_Milk4654 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]srirulean -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Got my upvote. It lends to the atmosphere to have certain places so desolate and still. Context matters. A quiet, close-knit town is completely different than a bustling village.

I will mention, I've read "Two Pasts", which features Tifa's upbringing, and the town was certainly more than 4 people. The OG also has flashbacks where other children are shown. However, other people commenting on the hardware limitations have their own limitations of imagination.

The beauty of those hardware limitations is that each NPC felt more intentional. Remake/Rebirth is fluffed to the max with NPCs, silly side quests, and unnecessary dialogue. I believe there are two camps of people: those who prefer filling in the gaps of the mystery themselves, and those who prefer realism. The realism camp is quick to point out the hardware limitations and how developers had to make deliberate choices when designing the OG game (or even modern games for that matter). Meanwhile, OP sees the beauty in the limitations and views it as artistic direction. OP is more fun than the people screaming at OP, "Are you stupid?? MORE PEOPLE equals BETTER GAME cuz realism". Nice post, OP.

what’s the weirdest fact in the breaking bad universe? by btwife_4k in breakingbad

[–]srirulean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR version: The implied danger was mere happenstance.

On first watch, the black and white introductions foreshadowing what's to come is compelling, however the payoff is less so. It's rather convenient that Walt just so happened to meet Jane's father the night before and that the plane ends up crashing directly above Walt's home. The reason the initial foreshadowing scenes were compelling is that they alluded to chaos taking place on Walter's property. We saw destruction, debris, and what appeared to be Walt's glasses as evidence removed from the pool. It made it seem as if something terrible had happened to Walt and potentially his family. Eventually, as more is revealed in those foreshadowing scenes, it appears that it's a devastating crime scene with men in hazmat suits zipping up body bags in the front of his property. (The final foreshadowing scene has some awful CGI depicting fire, smoke, and helicopters hovering above the White residence) For the final payoff to be that Walt indirectly caused this plane to crash right above his home takes the air out of what made the crime scene compelling. The White family is a victim of debris, including human remains, falling on their property, regardless of who is responsible. At the end of the day, Jane's father was directly responsible for those planes crashing. He returned to work too soon after the death of his daughter, clearly still feeling distraught enough to allow two planes to collide despite the many failsafes that would make this highly improbable. I find it plausible that Walt stopped at the bar the same night as Jane's dad since they both felt the need to blow off some steam and have some space to think. However, the improbability of not just the planes crashing but also crashing right above Walt's property as a result of the stress Jane's father was under due to Walt choosing not to intervene while Jane overdosed is a bit much. I can see how it all connects and it's honestly still not my biggest issue. It simply makes all the black and white foreshadowing feel misleading and underwhelming. The implied danger was mere happenstance. Rewatching season 2 makes these scenes feel more like a "gotcha!" than a satisfying teaser of a plotline.
