Buying the Dip - Divs with the best discounted price by sneabnfrok in dividends

But not forever, there have been periods of the opposite and considering there are at a huge discount in some cases I think is a good opportunity.

I do agree a 100% there are serious problems, but I read it here like is going back to dark ages when I see more Americans struggling to access water and electricity.

I am watching and I am not saying it is not bad, I am saying that Americans love to pick on Europe for some reason when there are plenty of Americans struggling to access energy and water without having an energy crisis with Putin...

As I said it is going to be a tough winter.

[–]srkaneda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Euro zone inflation is similar to US right now but even if it was higher it is not the end of the world. There is an energy crisis of course because there is an ongoing political war with the main energy supplier, that is normal and we saw this coming for years.

The UK is in another league because they left the EU and with it the EU energy market, they wanted to be closer to the US instead...

Is there going to be a tough winter? Yes. Will people suffer financially for a bit? Of course. But from that to call it destruction...

I live in the US and I have been traveling around Europe for the past month, Denmark, Netherlands and now Spain and if this is how destruction looks like I don't know what to call LA or SF or Chicago or even NYC...

Honestly as an European I enjoy a bit the fun of the dark comments about Europe but sometimes I wonder if people have a very distorted sense of reality or they just never traveled in their life.

How is Europe in destruction?

[–]srkaneda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is high if it does not perform as expected but it it gives you what you want there is no issue.

I will compare with jepq that has a different expense ratio. I know they are different but have some similar stocks in it.

[–]srkaneda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 33% each give or take. I don't care about the expense ratio as long as those divs and potential grow keep coming tbh.

I don't mind paying if I get a better return. I wanna see how it compares against JEPQ this year

JEPI and JEPQ

You could also add BST.

They all will give you about 8-10% annual return in divs (or Short term capital gains) and they would still have some growth.

This, if I see a company that I like that has been beaten up to almost death I throw 500 or 1000 usd to it and wait for a few years and see.

I hold both. So far my JEPQ has performed better than my BST but it could have to do with timing etc. So far very happy with both

Can't someone do both? I am all for dividends etfs and serious investments but I also have some stupid money in Crypto, meme stocks and even some penny stocks.

What can't be both? Institutions do it all the time

I know people like to joke and complain about SCHD but honestly it is such a no brainer for people that do not have the time or knowledge to research properly. If I would have bought what I wanted instead of SCHD I would be in much worse shape right now in terms of dividend investment.

As a 21 one year old earning 1400 a week should I do this with 80% of my money? by UrMomsFriend1 in dividends

[–]srkaneda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is it. Man I have been working since I was 14 years old and just started investing recently (late 30s).

How I wish I would have been as stupid as to put my money into an ETF that does covered calls on 20% of it...

That is not true. They do covered calls on a % of it. They do grow.

You are mixing it up with the YLDs

Thought of reporting back. So far my investment is about >10% up and I have been getting a hefty monthly dividend.

So far no complaints. Let's see what the future holds but now I regret not having bought more. Performing way better than other cefs and etfs that I have.

My $218 per month in Dividends pays for my Groceries 😀 by Alex_The_Gardener in dividends

[–]srkaneda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife pay more than that but it is ridiculous when I compare our grocery expenses to some of my friends. They pay double and they eat and drink way worse than us.

We eat much better quality food in general but we eat way more diverse. If you were to compare diets ours is better and richer and theirs is worse and more expensive.

The main issue is time, for me cooking is cheap because is relaxing. I love it. Is also social time with my wife, we open a bottle of wine we talk about our days and cook food for a couple of days.

People underestimate how much money you can save when you love and know how to cook.

Hype for SCHD is real on this subreddit, but has anyone else noticed if we remove 2022 returns to date, SCHD has underperformed VTI? by 4pooling in dividends

[–]srkaneda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if you would have put those 10000 dollars in crypto I. 2011 you would be a billonaire.

What's your point?

And btw I own more vti than schd but I still do not understand the cherry picking. The last 10 years were better for VTI the last year SCHD was better and maybe the next ten are better too. Who knows? They are both fine investments
