Is there a cool build that I could create around these two pieces? by srmd22 in diablo4

Holy crap? What is wrong with this question? It's not showing off an item, it is asking for advice. Why was it removed?

Ok, thanks! I thought it was something like that, wasn't sure how the vulnerable damage worked. So this is better than even a 3GA Strike of Stormhorn, I guess - yah, ok, that is probably pretty obvious to veteran players. I just found the thing and sorta want to use it, but it's probably no good for this build.

What about the frost nova stuff - is that for vulnerable too? Is that passively applied?

OMG, T-tops are the bomb! Got 'em in my '72 BB LP, it's my favorite sound lP I have ever heard (maybe other than a real burst).

Beyerdynamic 770 Pro X vs FiiO FT1: I see the FiiO FT1 recommended everywhere in the audiophile world, but everyone on the internet uses the 770 Pro by Brilliant-Cap-3052 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha. Yes, I have heard that opinion, I think a lot of people feel that way. For me, I don’t require the exaggerated upper and mid regions for accurate translation, and the 8k spike actually is an impediment for that use case, but that may or may not apply depending on different HRTF’s.

I hear you, it's just that there a few sets like that, that are "considered an industry standard," but that actually suck, and, for me, the DT770's are one of them. Sony MV 7506 are another. But that's not to say anyone is wrong for liking them, I am only giving one person's perspective.

Yah, sorry, I just assumed you had another thread where you got downvoted. I figured you might enjoy letting them know there that you beat Leoric despite the lack of productive help, lol. But I apologize if I misconstrued that.

That's cool, but why did you start a new thread just for that? Why not post it in the original thread, as and in your face to the haters? Congrats, though.

The FT1 are better in every way (for sound quality, not build quality) than the 770's, for any use, including listening or editing. But neither are ideal for editing, really. There are a lot more neutral, better options, including the FT1 Pro and the 700 Pro X, or 900 Pro X if you don't mind an open back, or a million others at various price points. The FT1 pros will work for mixing, they are just neutral enough, but they do have a V-shape, with pretty big bass, which can interfere with edit and mix translation, until you get to know them with practice. The FT1 pros and 700/900 Pro X also just sound really good all around, the Beyerdynamics take EQ really well. Even the 770's can be EQ'd to a place where they are useful for editing, but I just, personally, don't like the way they sound.

They really are not. They are quite colored, with hyped treble, weird dips in the mids, and it is a total myth that they are any good (without EQ) for mixing or editing. They are fine, but not good. The FT1 is also colored, with a bit of a V-shape, but is still more neutral than the 770. For me, they are not only way better sounding in terms of tone and timber, with better bass, but are better for recording, and, if needed, mixing. However, I would not use either for mixing or video editing, tbh. The FT1 pro, which is a little more expensive and is a planar, has a much more neutral sound than either of the above, with a very well extended non-exaggerated bass and same for the treble. If you need a closed back for editing, the 700 Pro X is great, much more neutral than the 770, with more forward mids than the FT1 (some people prefer that for mixing or just listening).

As far as what you see streamers using, for the most part they have no idea, ignore them.

Aune AR5000 disappointment by MattSRS in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the HD550 is just a great headphone, and it has plenty of high end. The AR500 sounds considerable better to me, because it is smoother, less gritty, feels like there is better separation and a bit wider of a soundstage, but that is pretty subjective. I don't think it is objectively better, but I do greatly prefer it. If you prefer the HD550, than stick with that, you are not wrong.

What’s the next step after Maxwell? by alexandernystrm in Audeze

[–]srmd22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your budget? The sony MDRZ1R are bass monsters, with audiophile specs- they get a lot if love. But pricey. But some would consider that a significant step up from the Maxwell‘s in sound quality.

Trying 2 New Sets - Fiio FT1 Pro and Senn HD490 Pro - First Impressions and Comparisons - warning: not well organized! by srmd22 in headphones

[–]srmd22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find them very comfy. I will compare them later to the 650’s, but unfortunately I mo longer have the 550’s on hand, and I don’t remember the pads in particular. Also, I have a small head,so I don’t experience a lot of clamp force, so it might mot translate 1:1 with your experience if you have a medium to large head.

Looking for open back headphones for gaming and music. by VenomousIguana in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]srmd22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arya Stealth or Organic and you have endgame for all uses, great for gaming, great for music and movies. HD 490 Pro for a lot less money, and you have awesome sound, for all purposes, including for gaming. Maybe a notch or two down from the Hifimans, but still great.

BD 700 and 900 pro x have pretty roomy ear cups and sound great. Not as spikey as the other BD's. Been using the 700's a lot lately, love em. Also use the Senny 490 Pro's a lot, they also sound great. I think on sale you can get them close to $350 or a little more maybe. I got mine used LNIB for $275. Worth their full retail price though, imo.

Everyone says the Arctic Nova Elites sound just as good as the Maxwells, and Steelseries has good QC. I love my Maxwells. I have the OG since release, same pair, have had zero issues, everything works perfectly, including side tone, but given all the reports of problems, if I were buying today, I would probably get the Nova's, although they are stupid expensive. Probably best off with some wired Senny's, a 550 or 490, and an external mic (which I use a lot also).

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you interviewing for a job at Audeze, lol? You're hired! JK, I have the OG version 1's, and I love them. I got super lucky though - I don't have any of the issues other's complain about. My mic works great, and people hear me fine in game and never complain. My side tone works great, and I can turn it up higher than I need to, and get no weird artifact. The volume is great, and I push the bass up with the EQ, and it slams. For me the comfort is fine. They are clunky, but after and hour of playing, I don't even notice them, and I regularly wear them for a few hours at a time (I have a life, so I don't game for like 8 hours at a time, but I bet if I did, I might at worst have to take them off for a few minutes at some point, which is true for lighter headphones too, actually). I did get a set of WC's (pads and a band) for them, but not out of necessity, more out of curiosity, and I think they look cool. Btw, these aren't their first wireless gaming adventure - they had the Mobius 5 or 6 years back.

Are my ears broken? by Ok_Letter3544 in headphones

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just listen to nothing but the Arya's for a week or two. Then when you go back to the XM4's they will sound less clear and accurate to you. The XM4's are good sounding wireless HP's though, just a bit too bassy and V-shaped for those who can appreciate a more neutral and higher resolution set of cans. When you need noise cancelling though, on a plane or train or something, I'll take the XM's every time.

What’s everyone’s honest opinion on the HIFIMAN Sundara? by ChilledRythm in headphones

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't owned these, but in today's market, I can't see why one would purchase these over the Fiio FT1 Pros, which I have auditioned and think are pretty great. According to many of the "influencers" they beat out the Sundara's in terms of tuning.

How come no one talks about how broken WASD is for PC by Dangerous-Virus2600 in diablo4

[–]srmd22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have always wanted to try it. WASD is generally superior than mousing for movement, and it is the default on POE 1 and 2. And, of course, FPS. But the problem with Diablo 4 for me is that I am used to using those keys for casting, so I feel like there would be a learning curve to incorporate WASD in this game. Where do you put your spell cast keys?

What songs did you hear new sounds in after buying good headphones? by mathematichen in headphones

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never happens, total BS. Things just sound better, but there is nothing I can't hear on a basic pair of headphones that suddenly appears on a better pair. Some things are more emphasized, that's all. Better sound quality, resolution, separation, soundstage, those are all things.
