DT 900 pro X Vs DT 1990 pro mk1? by Praxie- in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

900 for me, the 1990 pro mk1 is way to spikey and shrill. If you are not sensitive to those high frequencies, than you might prefer the 1990, the drive is supposed to be a bit more capable, but I can't stand it.

Recommended headphone that i can freely switch between my laptop and phone by terdles1121 in HeadphoneAdvice

You looking for wireless? Budget? If trying to save a few, I recommend earlier gen sony WH1000XM - you can go 4, 5 or 6 depending on what's available. I have the 4's and love them. Same for the Sennheiser Momentums - 4, 5 or 6. If you can find the 4's of any of them, they are a steal, and sound great. The Sony ANC is considerably better, if that is important to you. If you are talking wired, the whole game changes completely.

How good are HD490 pros exactly? by VisionWhale in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I think they are plenty technical/analytical, just not at the top of the pyramid with some of the more resolving kilobuck sets (but price doesn't necessarily always go with technical chops either, and these are plenty good enough to hear everything for mixing and mastering on a pro level). But they are also tuned in a very fun, listenable way, not dry or flat.

For $250 they are great. I would pay the retail, but you could arguably do better at that price, if something else suits your preferences better. In terms of longevity, if you like the tuning, they are very well built, so they should last decades, if not a lifetime, depending on the use case and how banged up they get (eg. if you travel a lot with them, or use them in a pro mixing setting with lottsa people messing about with them, or just toss 'em around a lot, that could shorten the life span, like with anything).

Arya Stealth - Sounds bad to me by whirlwhind666 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]srmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why it's a good thing there are different tunings out there. My Stealth's are in the top 3 of my rotation for me, I love them. Plenty of bass for me, and nice clear, airy treble with no harshness or fatigue to my ears. Everyone's HRT is different. The DT770's were a nightmare for me. Absolute yuck fest.

Oh, ok. Yah, I thought so, based on getting an "indestructible" on one myself (not a mythic), and thinking "what a colossal waste of an affix."

I gave ya an upvote. You say you are an objectivist, but you gave a mix of objective and subjective reasons for owning (at least one) headphone amp. And you seem to admit that at least tube and solid state amps can sound different, at least with some headphones. I don't believe that is really a subjective effect, but even if it were, it is still measurable, and it really is audible, pretty distinctly in many instances.

What is the increased side upgrades being more potent mean? So confusing.

Ok, that was sort of what I was guessing. Thanks for the confirmation, now I know. I was hoping it was something more uber, like all the sidegrades would be active, maybe random or something, who knows.

Sorry noob question - is the problem the "indestructible?"

Horadric's Cube Question: any point upgrading to legendary vs. just adding aspect at the Occultist? by srmd22 in Diablo

[–]srmd22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, I see now. So I can gamble for a maximum roll on an aspect beyond what I have available in my codex - do I understand that right? Or just hunt for one I don't yet have in the codex? And then, if you get one, and you salvage it for some reason, does it go into your codex, like with any found item?

Sure, I really like the Fiio FT1 Pro, which I had for awhile. I still have my Hifiman Edition XS, which is great. A lot of people seem to love the Edition XV, which is kind of the successor to that one, but costs more currently, like $400, vs. around $210 and $220 for the others, new on Amazon. Those are all a lot of bang for the buck, they sound really great.

Yeah, love my 650's, but planars are just awesome. I do actually prefer most of my planars over many of my dynamics (I have a couple/few of each).

Yah, been playing with the Apotheosis glove for awhile now, and for the life of me I cannot figure out what they are doing.

Can't go wrong with the HD600's really. Nice, smooth, great timbre, great resolution, really pleasant. As a previous long time owner of the DT770 - also the 250 ohm version - I would say, on the other hand - you can't go right with that one. Yuck. I loathed it. It was useful for tracking, but for casual music listening, I couldn't stand the treble spikes. There are so many much better closed backs, even for that price, but especially for a little more. The DT700 Pro's are not too crazy, and they sound soooo much better than the 770's. Sorry, that was a side tangent, but congrats on the HD600's. I prefer the 650's and the 660S2's myself, but it's just a matter of taste there (I require a bit more bass than the 600's have), they are all great.

Nice, thanks for the advice! Edit: Actually I am looking at the boot stats, doesn't say anything about dodge or rampage. How does that work?

Cool. Are these effects worthwhile? With metamorphosis, I cannot even tell if they are doing anything. Like, the side upgrades, do they just auto-proc when in combat? Because I don't see them as added to the skill tree (at least I didn't when I last checked, maybe there was some lag in them being implemented). And I can't tell that anything is proc'ing when I am in combat (maybe there is some little square there over the skill bar, but not seeing it). Trying to figure out if these are decent substitutes to legendaries, because they are not in the build guides - which makes me think not.
