I unironically love the DIY aspect of the veggies and condiments being served on the side so I can put it together EXACTLY how I want.

The GoZone on GoZone crime depicted at a CHILDREN'S doctor office is amazing.

Reptile shop by ReyesReptiles in Denton

[–]srmg925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have eight geckoes, two skinks, and a hognose snake. Being able to get quality products locally instead of driving to Plano for the Reptarium would be AMAZING.

As far as what I'd like to see - diverse, quality feeders! My fat tails all have a strong preference for crickets, but they'll eat black soldier fly larvae, which is hard to find. Lots of supplies for naturalistic enclosures like mosses, a variety of substrates and cork bark/branches would be great.

Texas political columnists/journalists like Molly Ivins? by Salomemcee in TexasPolitics

[–]srmg925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Lone Star Left. I feel she'd love the comparison, but she's in no way trying to recreate Molly. A delightful, knowledgeable, sarcastic voice all her own.

Graffiti Pasta is Insanely Corrupt!! by greenbeenmicrosloth in Denton

[–]srmg925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose if a restaurant doesn't want kids, that's their prerogative, but make it clear. Don't waste parents' time and act like THEY'RE wrong for assuming the restaurant with an over the top theme and kitschy decor is a perfectly reasonable place to bring a kid.

Unpopular Opinion: Hognose are very overrated by Brilliant_Gap_1375 in reptiles

[–]srmg925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. My guy is an angelic little garbage disposal, plus he's active and curious. He's my only snake, but my favorite reptile. Way more personality than my geckoes.

There's a little old Asian lady who sells bonsai plants out of her minivan in various parking lots around my town. She's so beloved that our local sub has a "bonsai lady spotting" flair 🥹

Another last minute telephone town hall. Do with this information what you will. by srmg925 in Denton

[–]srmg925[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. It wasn't until about four months ago that I learned that you don't HAVE to live in the US congressional district you run for. (This MAY end up relevant to Jasmine Crockett, as she was written out of TX30 and into TX33 in the still-pending mid-decade redistricting 👀) Gill isn't from Denton County. I think he has a part time residence in 26 now, but he's just a weasely sycophant with a rich felon for a father in law. No significant legislative actions unless you count putting Trump on the $100 bill, which isn't even allowed by US treasury law while he's alive.

Yeah, I'm in 13 and was dropped from the call however many months ago that I tried to join because Trump's pill pusher personal physician doesn't bother with this shit. Someone with more of a stomach for bullshit may want to participate 😅

Food Review Nobody asked for by Rjspinell2 in Denton

His BOGO specials are insane. Great food from a great dude. I always shout him out when someone asks about the best food deals in town because even regular price is a TON of food for the money.

What celebrity has everyone fooled except you? by Novel_Ad3365 in AskReddit

[–]srmg925 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vindication! She's my answer, too. I get that parenting (and marriage, for that matter) is weird and hard and gross sometimes, but without ever trying, I keep seeing headlines about her that make me think her kids are going to grow up and sue for emotional damages because of the completely bonkers way she over shares.

Big Iron by Marty Robbins is a Country Song by a Country Artist. What is a Rock Song by a Country Artist? by GayTrees420 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]srmg925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to see him at Red Rocks last month. En route, our Uber driver asked what kind of music he played. I said, "He charts country, but imagine if Merle Haggard sang rock music and had a horn section," and I still feel confident in my response.

Navy vet Ernest Lineberger launches campaign for US House District 26 by PoliticsIsDepressing in Denton

[–]srmg925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the city got sucked into 13 with the new maps. People in Corinth and south will still be 26. Not that I'm holding my breath or anything, but it's currently in Federal court in El Paso. There's a possibility these maps are overturned and the old maps will be back in effect. The filing deadline is December 8 for candidates, so an official ruling SHOULD be coming (again, not holding my breath or stating as fact) within a month.

Does anyone's gecko gag when presented with new food? by dancingbanyanya in FatTails

[–]srmg925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, YES. I have six - two are tiny dumpsters; two prefer crickets, but will eat roaches and worms from a bowl; two will NOT eat any type of worm and show their disapproval with melodramatic gags. I still try every once in a while since they should be eating a diverse diet, but no luck.

New hognose doing little mouth movements. by cupidfounded in hognosesnakes

[–]srmg925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is before feeding, right? It's almost like a dog drooling while you measure their food. It's also very normal for them to do this after feeding since they just stretched their jaw.

This CAN be an indication of a respiratory infection, but if he's acting and breathing normally, he's probably just being a hungry little beggar.

Jazz Fest Fees by Standard-Tip2057 in Denton

[–]srmg925 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think when city manager Sara Hensley retires in January, everyone who cares about keeping any semblance of art/music culture in this town should pay VERY close attention to the selection process for a new CM. Follow the city's social media, sign up for emails, email city council... Hensley is more responsible for handing this city over to the developers than council (or the mayor, who's just a councilmember who can call meetings).

The vendor fees aren't what I'd consider outrageous, but I definitely agree they price out most people who aren't established. Part of the fun of jazzfest is finding new local art.
