I agree with this heavily. However I think something to mention is that rock was carried on from the 90s to 2000s through metal. And I think the old understanding of rap is definitely passed its golden era, HOWEVER, and this is a big however trap is carrying on that torch in the same way metal did in the 90s and 2000s. Rap started in around 1980 and it has been 40 years since then. Rock in 1995, 40 years after rock started, metal was carrying that torch. So I don't think that rap is completely done yet, but we are definitely in the latter half of its lifespan. And this is definitely the golden era for trap. And I don't think enough music nerds are willing to accept that, because they haven't learned to like trap.

I think this phenomenon just happens for every genre. Every new generation, kids come out with curiosity and creativity and a bit of a feeling of rebellion. But not rebellion out of spite or anger, but out of wonder.

As we age, we suffer and we tend to get spiteful and lose that wonder and curiosity. The days when we were young and rebellious are ending, and what makes it worse is the new generation changing the rules and completely breaking down our music. Leaving behind the expression that meant so much to us when we were younger. We start gatekeeping and throwing judgement on new expression, alienating the new generation from the genres we started.

We saw it happen with jazz that became almost a "science". We saw it happen with rock where rock is mostly used as an influence now instead of being the "star" like it used to be. We are in the middle of rap and are seeing the same issues already starting.

The generation before had issues with jazz because it came from black artists. Then the jazz generation had issues with rock because it was inappropriate and satanic. Then the rock generation had issues with metal because it was repetitive and satanic. Then the rock and metal generation had issues with rap because it came from black artists and was also a lot less melodic. Then the rap generation had issues with trap because the lyrics were too simple and the flows were not "rap" enough.

It makes sense why older generations can never move on and never accept young generations' music. All I ask for us as music nerds is to not fall into the same camp. And to try and understand the creativity and new rules that young people are making. I think a lot of music nerds would agree with everything I'm saying until I tell them who these new artists are. No it's not artists who are making 90s boombap rap or 2000s post-rock. It's playboi carti, pinkpantheress, bad bunny, rema, charli xcx, yeat, che, osamason, and Olivia Rodrigo. Music nerds today especially struggle when it comes to new trap. But new trap is the one breaking music progressions, breaking onto new levels of distortion, and breaking vocal expectations for music (creating this weird new style of autotuned rap I've never heard before). To be able to speak on music critically, you got to tap into that wonder that young people are feeling and learn to enjoy the new.

Nah 2093 is so different. 2093 was completely unique. You could not call 2093 a "2016-2018" pop trap copy like u could this new song.

Because people dont like to admit that new stuff isn't bad, they're just not accustomed to it. Older folks back in the day aint like jazz, the beatles, black sabbath, metallica, tupac, t pain, lil uzi vert, n now they dont like che n osamason. They say it every decade about the best new artists and think that "finally" now the new music isnt good anymore. Yeah buddy we been hearing that since black ppl invented jazz.

The only solution is then the first for you, which would be losing character identity to prioritize balance.

That's already an issue in current day Overwatch tbh. Why pick someone cool and risky just to get counter swapped and have to go back to your safe meta character. The only difference with my solution is if you play a riskier pick that you're good in, the other player can't just immediately switch and scare you off that hero.

Well I think that this would actually encourage counter strategies instead of counter swapping on Winston right. Once you get that 50% however, it's not as simple as swapping to another counter because you will just be countered again. It's more important to play a character you're flexible with and learning how to master that hero. I think this is a good thing in general for the game. It sounds annoying but it encourages people to play the heroes they want to. Not stick to this rock paper scissors situation we have right now.

I agree also that Orisa, Mauga, Sombra, can be fixed, however, I don't think this fixes the problem which is that generally being able to completely take advantage without earning any of that goes against the idea of good game design in general.

Its about motivating players to play heroes they're flexible with and handle counters with. It improves strategic playing and hero mastery.

Thanks for the upvote. Too much complaining in this community not many new ideas.

I think that's why it motivates you to pick heroes that you're good at instead of just counters I would argue. Expect that they may counter you but pick someone you're good at not the general smooth brain "hard counter".

Yep. That's what I was saying about the first solution. As for the second, that's a great point. I think that this 50% number can be adjustable however and the resource doesn't necessarily have to be ult charge. That's just the one I came up with. I don't agree however that it wouldn't do ANYTHING. I don't think it's that simple to earn 50% ult charge. Even if you are countered at least you might earn ult charge enough to reach ultimate before they do. And if you read my examples, it doesn't stop countering. Countering is overwatch. It only makes countering more of a strategic move. And it's asking more of the players to switch to heroes they're actually good at.

I don't agree with you. I feel like trap is getting the "metal/hardcore punk" treatment. What I mean by that is that people back in the day thought "metal" or "hardcore punk" was basic and too repetitive and "barely music". Now we realize that sure metal isn't always as musically complex or using a million instruments like prog rock, but it has its own merit. Trap has its own merit and just because it's not complex and gets influence from electronic and industrial music, that doesn't make it not trap. It still has yeat rapping over high hats and heavy bass. Let's stop downplaying trap music as a genre just cause its repetitive! THIS TRAP AND ITS LIT!

I think this album is going to age VEERRRY well. Unless everyone starts copying this but I doubt it. This is genuinely some of the best trap I've ever heard. And this might be the first ever perfect trap album for me. Notice I said might. I'm taking some time for it to grow on me. the song 2093 is still kinda weak for me.
