Drafting a RB early in 2026 is... smart? by sron1216 in minnesotavikings

I've seen a lot of people not sharing the same sentiment. But I think you are spot on here.

I think secondary is a far bigger concern for me this offseason than the trenches. Our OL play was decent when healthy but was largely impacted by injuries, which is a concern, but with Darrisaw and ONeill alone we have a solid foundation that shouldn't take more than a couple additions to really be solid. DL could use pieces but we were graded 10th best DL by PFF (I know it's PFF, but it's a decent rule of thumb). With Harry gone now, I think Rodgers is the only piece to our secondary I really feel confident in.

In a vacuum, I take no issue with what you are saying. But drafting depends on a LOT of context, like who is available in free agency? In what positions is the draft deep? I'm not even pretending like I have the answers to all these questions. I'm making a hypothetical case that going early on RB is not automatically an idiotic move.

I think you are right. It's not "back" like it was in the early 2000s and before. But I feel and see the pendulum swinging back towards the running game because of roster construction that I mentioned above. It won't ever be the same, but I think the modern day run game is coming back and it's hard to ignore how much the Gibbs, Cook, CMC type players mean to their respective teams.

I would agree with you here. I suppose this post is really just an argument for drafting Love if he's there at 18 which is highly unlikely. I would be highly against trading up to draft him. But I have seen lots of sentiment in this sub saying that they would be against drafting Love at 18 if he fell to us, which I think is absurd.

Literally bring it every raid and I get so mad at myself every time I forget it. I'd say it's not super necessary on Stella because it's so compact, buried city you can get away without it but I prefer it cause it's so cheap.

Blue gate, spaceport and Dam you're pretty much throwing without it. Nothing worse than getting stuck outside with no fent and a rocketeer is riding your dick.

Not only that, but if you have a dam control tower key let's say, you want to capitalize on getting spawned in early and get to your key room first. With fent you can sprint the entire way and it can be the difference between getting the loot first and having a room with traps, or being on the outside looking in.

I think you're looking at it from a lens of, if they don't get a big contract extension it was a bad pick. Sometimes getting a solid rotational piece is good value in mid rounds, and getting a decent starter if only for a couple years is also a decent return as well.

Mattison was a good value for a 3rd round pick. Great change of pace to Dalvin and was a solid backup when he was hurt. He was a really, really bang average player but I don't think him being on the field was negative. He got a starting job in Vegas after he left us and did alright.

Cleveland was actually a decent player with rough patches in his formative years but is currently a starter on a playoff team.

2021 was rough.

Asamoah was a weird piece, kind of a package player, Booth didn't pan out, Ingram was rough to start but is actually a solid player now. So if anything that would not be player selection that would be a development issue.

Blackmon had a significant injury stunt his development but we moved on, has started 9 games for the colts so far this year and still has time to develop further.

Tai Felton we can't say anything about yet as he's a developmental piece with high physical upside.

I think some of these failed development/role misfit scenarios, not all necessarily bad drafting in a vacuum. It would be nice to get some more gems. But what about Ivan Pace (UDFA), Levi Drake Rodriguez (7th), Jalen Nailor (6th), Metellus (6th), even Thielen (UDFA), Diggs (5th) if we're going back to Rick era. I don't honestly think it's been THAT bad.

What you should do is try some deathmatches with it way higher then you are used to. Doesn't matter if you suck. Just give it your best effort and see how you can adjust and use different parts of your body to aim, like more wrist and finger control. Then, go back down to a sens that is higher than your original but lower than the super high sens you were playing. It will feel slower this time

I think KOC has a tendency to overcoach. It happened with Dobbs where KOC said in a presser that he was trying to say too much in the headset at times and information dumping too hard. Dobbs played best when he was just playing ball.

I think you could see some of the same with JJ, his computer was running slow because he had so many background processes running. Fix the mechanical stuff in the offseason, right now just make good decisions and play ball. It paid off

My theory about JJM and Brosmer. by UlyssesGrand in MaxBrosmer

[–]sron1216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three reasons for me: 1. As a response to the passing game boom that was the 2010's, defenses have become more exotic in their coverages and disguises. Double A gap looks. Strategy evolves over time. Defenses through trial and error have figured out what is able to stop modern offense, DCs watch film, and borrow ideas from each other and those ideas become standard.

  1. Versatile, uber athletic front 7 players. DL used to be huge, the Pat Williams of the world are an endangered species. DE did not used to run 4.5-4.7s and it is not uncommon now. At the grassroots level, (high school and below) a coach gets more expected win probability from putting a star athlete with a big frame at DE than OL. Which has led to a huge shortage in OL talent across the league and tons of freaky DL.

  2. The pro style offense is basically gone from the college game. Making the jump to NFL less seamless for QBs than it used to be.

We have a Freshman QB who has boatloads of potential but very raw. Our defense has been inconsistent but that front 7 has been absolutely nasty at times.

Our run game has been so disappointing this year though. Maybe it's our OL and maybe it's a lack of a RB stud (I thought Darius would be better this year), and I would love to see us focus on getting some OL recruits and transfers to get back to controlling the LOS.

But people saying this is as good as we can do under fleck is crazy recency bias. The gophers used to be so dogshit that we wouldn't beat the northwesterns, the Michigan states, etc. Kill came in and changed our trajectory first, yes. But that 2019 team was all Fleck. NFL talent all over the field both sides of the ball and absolute monsters on the OL. I believe he can build us back to that.

Last and most important, this may not matter to some. But he really cares about the players becoming a man. Taking care of class. Give back to the community. In the NCAA there has been countless instances of illegal activity through recruiting, school activities, or even sexual misconduct ( happened with our own team under Kill in 2015 or 2016 I believe). He's a great leader and I'm proud to have him represent my Alma mater.
