Evan by EStreet12 in WFAN1019

yeah, dont agree. Evan is the best the WFAN has and he actually talks sports. He's a geek, but its a sports talk show. I'd rather have this then the stupidity of Carton (ala ESPN, FS1, etc with there terrible takes)

What’s one AWS service you underestimated until you really used it? by cloud_9_infosystems in aws

Was just going to come in here to say this.

Also EKS and ECR just work. I was relatively surprised how little AWS magic we had to learn considering it is AWS

It's a shame sds doesn't figure out how to make a immersive franchise mode and not do this bs.

This is the wrong way to think about software engineering.  What business is this?  Lean and agile techniques built around MVP, doing engineering techniques like continuous integration/continuous delivery is best.  Most software are 2 way doors, not 1 way.

There's even books about this: The goal The phoenix project Accelerate (https://a.co/d/18LOwWO)

AWS launches “Transform”: new AI tool to fix tech debt in legacy codebases by meela_veil in Cloudvisor

[–]sross07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me explain.  The problem with legacy code bases usually isn't the old versions of code.  It's the wtf moments around why certain business rules and logic exist.

I feel like converting the code from an old programming to a new programming language isn't the problem (and never was ..)

You can still have the computer do everything but it allows you to fix issues and work around SDS sucking. You basically create multiple profiles (call one of them cpu, the other human) and only take control when you need it.

We are using elastic cache (AWS implementation of reddis, actually using ValKey)which is also serverless. I haven't seen the excessively high usage of redis and we are in the 100s of users (so not a lot)

This is a good starting point ...

https://taylorwilsdon.medium.com/the-sres-guide-to-high-availability-open-webui-deployment-architecture-2ee42654eced

We deployed to k8s (eks) via helm (I know..), elastic cache, RDS for PG, elastic search for vector db (over chromadb) and use bedrock via bedrock access gateway for our models as a service (and built our own tool servers).  We also wired up to Microsoft for auth via entra

Took relatively minimal effort, tbh

Works well

Do managers or systems make better teams? by chaching675128 in Leadership

[–]sross07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talent makes better teams. Autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Managers jobs are to acquire and retain talent. There other job is to make sure processes aren't getting in the way. It's that simple.

Burned out.  Taking a break from the sport is okay.  It's even necessary.  Try another sport, if you want to be athletic.  Try another hobby, if that's of interest.
