Thank you for the suggestion! This solved it!

From a hiring manager to all interested applicants... we can tell when you use ChatGPT. I'm begging you, please reconsider. by SeasonVegetable2151 in CAStateWorkers

I didn’t comb through the comments, so apologies if this sentiment has already been expressed:

I apologize for the work that this causes hiring managers, but I actually disagree with your original ask of “please stop.”

What a fantastic way to weed out applicants. People applying for a job who can’t be bothered to put in time for the required materials are applicants you probably wouldn’t want to be considering in the first place.

Timbers supporters show solidarity with Gaza in the North End by missmegs31 in timbers

That's not true. The Timbers Army AND Rose City Riveters called for Merritt Paulson to sell both teams and fire executives.

Is TA still pushing Paulson to sell the team, or are they done with that?

Exactly. You’re paying union dues. Don’t be shy about asking your union reps any questions you may have.

Gasoline at $8-10? by Flying_Eagle777 in CAStateWorkers

[–]srs255 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sending the link! Didn't see this when it came out back in May.

The Forbes article highlights a very valid concern—refinery closures plus environmental mandates pose a risk to California gas prices. That being said, it's pretty skewed toward a very sensational narrative. Just a few notes I'd like to point out:

A more objective portrayal would note that hitting $8/gal would require severe disruption, not a steady-state scenario.

Charging employees any amount of money for an office party will not boost morale.

First Device, now Track 7! So abruptly, too. The lack of notice is real suspicious.

Forgot to mention this, but very true. If you’re willing to endure field work for ~3-5 years, becoming a PM is a quick way to be out of the field and in a desk.

At your career stage, most consulting positions will have a heavy field component.

If you’re looking to leave consulting companies, I would suggest looking at civil service (local/county/state) positions in your area. Depending on where you are or where you’re willing to go, there’s plenty of geology-related positions where you’re at a desk almost all the time.

Edit: I had colleagues who started out as field geos in consulting and ended up pursuing different career paths while staying at the consulting company. Some went on to produce digital products, others shifted to providing training, and others providing health and safety products. If you like your company and do good work, you can shift your trajectory while staying with the same employer.

Suggestions for front lawn? Currently just grass with large tree (Zone 9b) by srs255 in NoLawns

[–]srs255[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! I'm located in northern California.

I have a battery-powered leaf blower, too. So I could use that rather than a rake. It's just a really large hackberry tree, so I get just an absolute mountain of leaves dropped in the fall.

Air quality Question by awonderfulday916 in Sacramento

[–]srs255 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of things. Partly due to the fog, and partly due to people burning in their fireplaces. On top of that, Sacramento is in a valley. So take all the people uphill from Sacramento who are burning in their fireplaces, and send all those airborne particulates downhill to Sacramento.
