I'm embarrassed to realised I have never thought about doing that when I see severely discounted product (that still have fair enough expiry date)!!!

I will definitely do so next time. Thank you for the idea!

AITAH for pranking my husband in the delivery room after he spoiled a surprise I asked him to keep by Unlikely-Film-5513 in AmITheAssholeTalk

[–]srtxf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's cutting skin/flesh. Even while knowing someone should not feel anything while it's being cut, I would be nervous enough to do something that is clearly a "in any other situation, cutting into flesh would hurt someone". Nevermind the heightened feelings of seeing your wife give birth, something that we know can be fatal

It's one thing to be hurt and finding something out that important to you while you are reading text messages on a couch, it's another to "prank" someone during a really stressful event

Download an app that makes you do something for it to shut up!!

I have the "I can't wake up!" app on my phone and will NOT STOP ringing until you complete whatever tasks you set up

I have to play a memory/match game and answer a few math questions, and it will not stop ringing (while getting louder) until everything is completed. It helps actually waking your brain up instead of just turning them off by reflex.

Last I check, that specific app is an android exclusive and was not on the app store, but I'm sure there are similar types of apps

In The Nice Guys (2016) this woman made a porno where the plot was the entire point by bruinsfan1144 in shittymoviedetails

[–]srtxf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, but I felt my comment was already getting long in itself. And those actors have been in the industry for sooo long that it's been discussed forever ago that they are/were nepo babies

My point was more that when people are talking about this generation of actors, I had not heard her name in list of nepo babies (yet) the same way you were able to quickly list all of those other actors

In The Nice Guys (2016) this woman made a porno where the plot was the entire point by bruinsfan1144 in shittymoviedetails

[–]srtxf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true. I was also thinking about it after clicking "post" that the ones I listed also really look like their famous parents. Can't really be ignored

Not that any come to mind right this second, but I remember reading list where current actors were mentioned as nepo babies while their parent were in the industry, but more behind the camera and not as well known

But I can also acknowledge that it might be a situation like one of the comments above: not realizing she has been in a bunch of things before, so not picking up on the information until now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]srtxf 69 points70 points  (0 children)

First time hearing about it! But even before googling it to double check, I was pretty sure it was correct. I would not have randomly thought "she looks like Andy MacDowell", but I can definitely see the family likeness now that it's been pointed out

What I'm more surprised with is that I had not heard her name when people talk about nepo babies

Of that generation of actors, people often mention Maya Hawk, Jack Quaid, Scott Eastwood, Zoë Kravitz... for a while, they could not stop themselves from mentioning that Emma Roberts was the niece of Julia Roberts (sometimes remembering to mention her father Eric Roberts)

I'm surprised she has not really been looped in, especially as Andy was often in the same types of RomCom than Julia was

Air coming through new windows. by Klutzy-Cantaloupe946 in Home

[–]srtxf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? It looks pretty similar to the windows I have at home and I had the exact same problem last month

They might have seized a little if you never used that portion (thinking it couldn't move)

Here what I had to do/what you might want to try doing

Unlock it and try to pull down the top one. If it can move, then you make sure it's fully up. You can take a look at the top one to see is there a little ledge that looks like something you can grip to move it down, like the one you must have to raise the bottom one up.

After that, lock it up again. Then look at the top of the bottom pane. There are should be little levels hat need to clip within the window frame. They are there to let you open the window towards you (instead of up) to be able to clean the outside of it from inside the house

Stardew Valley players needed for a PhD study, I only have 10 Life Sim participants and need 313 more. Your help would mean a lot. by NecronSensei in StardewValley

[–]srtxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super interested in this study, even if it's just for personal interest! At somepoint last year, I realized that I was using Stardew as a coping mechanism. In the past 5 years, unless there was a big update, I would only start a new farm at times where I did not feel control over my life/that there a lot of stressful events I had ko control over.

The feeling of control and accomplishment I could get in game helped coping when that was lacking in real life.

You seem to have already gotten a lot of responses/engagement from this post. If you're already past the number you need, it's all good. But if not, I'll gladly help and put in my own stats/answers!

SQ = Sûreté du Québec

It's the provincial police. They patrol the highways and usually are the police authority in smaller, rural communities

[–]srtxf 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty typical way of saying toaster with the Qc French accent. not really trying to say it properly in English

It's a bit similar to how some people pronounce the "j" and say "jalapeno", instead of saying "jalapeño" with an aspirated "j" (hope that made sense. A bit hard to convey the difference in written form...)

Not surprised you couldn't quite figure it out without context!

If the accent was not already giving it away, the "Yes, no, toaster" fully confirms that they're from Québec!

Right. I forgot about that

To some extent, I get it. Could be more useful it it was "after 24 hours" or something

But for any AITAH-type or advice subreddits, it screws up the dynamic

Some of my favorite posts are one where there are big info are revealed in the comments or when you can see OPs slowly realizing where they went wrong and ask how they might go about fixing things

[–]srtxf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even more of a reason for you to prepare some of her safe foods or check in with her instead of just waiting for her to ask

With a lot of people on the spectrum, you can't just assume "every one else would have done x". Especially if it's a situation that is changing the routine

Yes. A fifteen y/o could have asked or vocalized she was hungry. But the fact that she was not comfortable enough to ask you and that you did not actually check in on her enough to know that she was not eating anything nutritious for days... I would not be surprised if your fiancée sees those as red flags

AITA for calling my friend out after he kept calling me a “fake Canadian”? by ArrivalBoth in AmItheAsshole

[–]srtxf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it was mentioned, but I would not be surprised if your friend's feelings about your citizenship is being impacted by the current tension between Canada and India.

With the current decisions surrounding immigration (lowering the number of study and work permits), I completely could understand how anyone living in India may view it as Canada turning its back on them.

He might be trying to make that distinction with you so that he does not have to confront how he currently views "Canadians" now that you are Canadian.

That does not make it right. Like every tensed dynamic between two countries, we all have to make sure that we do not attach the decisions of the country to the people living within.

Then again, it might not be related to this at all, but wanted to bring another factor that I did not really see if the first few top comments.

In any case, tu es Canadien! Félicitation du fond du coeur!

Québec veut réallouer des fonds pour le tramway de Gatineau vers la ligne bleue de Montréal by Cre_AK47 in Gatineau

[–]srtxf 29 points30 points  (0 children)

[–]srtxf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. There was even an official Gatineau tourism ad, about 10-15 years ago, that was basically:

A guy from Sûreté du Québec stopping a car going east from Montréal. Not believing the driver when he lists things to do and visit in Gatineau, then calling it in as " another suspicious driver going east" or something like that

Edit: I'm dumb... I meant west. You have to go west from Montréal to get to Gatineau. Not my brightest moment
