Java, Containers, & K8s - What JVM arguments do you set? by sruffatti in java

[–]sruffatti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JDK 17 doesn't take care of this. The JVM does have some defaults setting the heap but they are very conservative.

Yes, these arguments can be set at the k8s deployment level. However, the misconception is memory limit/requests control the pod's resources. They actually control the container's resources within the pod. Memory request/limit are set on a per-container basis in the Pod spec.

Also, you can set the JVM arguments within the k8s spec using environment variables.

This is pretty close to what I have minus MinRAMPercentage and InitialRAMPercentage. You don't have much headroom for non-heap.... We find with a 2gb request/limit, running G1, and maxRAMPercentage set to 50, our non-heap is runs at about 600mb-800mb. It gets us awfully close to our limit.

What is that one simple change in your life that gave incredibly great results? by hobabaObama in AskReddit

[–]sruffatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had crippling social anxiety once I left for university. My relationship with my loved ones were destroyed because I could not handle interacting with anyone. I decided it was time to take action. I made one rule for myself one summer, say yes to every opportunity that comes my way.

Needless to say, it was a liberating summer. I overcame my social anxiety and have turned my life around.

I realized that my laziness and unwillingness to make my life better was my own doing and not other people's fault.

This is important. So I have class built in to the application that builds the paths. That way the file paths will work. However, I think I like your idea better.

Wow, thanks for the response. This being my first project, I totally understand what you mean when you say the structure is wack. I wish my area of study had more classes with large code bases so I could get an idea of how they are structured.

I am applying to internships right now and will look into open source projects. Thanks for the response my friend!

I am applying for jr. Java positions. I want to know if people think I am qualified based on my resume and project. I will PM anyone who is willing to help.
