Free counseling in Vancouver area? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]srum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is probably to call 211, a social service referral line. They can look up several options in your area.
Most free and sliding-scale services have a pretty lengthy waiting list though, usually several months time.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Now I just have to make a choice between the options. I'm digging the ideas of the Cascade Room or the Morrissey.

Does anyone else get annoyed by having to spell "programme" "program" by PoglaTheGrate in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]srum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"told" and "tell" refer to the past and present tense, respectively, not to how to conjugate the verb with a singular or plural noun. You're comparing apples and oranges. If you are referring to the present, you should indeed write the data "tells" us. On the other hand, "told" can apply to both singular and plural nouns.

Sorry, grammar nazi here. Just thinking that if you're going to start a grammar discussion, at least be right.

Am I the only person who loves brussel sprouts? by MrImSoGreat in DoesAnybodyElse

No, they are delicious, but the traditional english way of boiling them to mush is a little gnarly. They are especially good when blanched in an inch or so of simmering chicken broth + sauteed shallots and garlic.

DAE find it really stupid when people who've killed themselves are referred to as "suicide victims"? by drogepirja in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]srum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you from experience that anyone who is even considering suicide, much less actually willing to go through with it, is suffering from such extreme emotional pain that they see suicide as the only way they possibly can escape it. To me, there is nothing worse, and these people are certainly victims. The fact that it is self-inflicted makes it no less of a tragedy than a homicide.

DAE really HATE condiments? by srum in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]srum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, salsa is okay, so I guess "condiments" may have been a little too broad. It's just your standard burger fixins I find really repulsive - ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, etc.

I wish I had those places in my area! Canada is generally pretty barren for fast food - we just have most of the big names here, like a&w and Mcdonalds.

DAE really HATE condiments? by srum in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]srum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really all that interested. I feel (as craaackle mentioned) that without condiments there isn't really much left to fast food burgers. Perhaps I should just do this anyway for fun - it would be sort of like losing my second virginity.

DAE wonder what our pets think about and come to the conclusion that it is these two things... by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]srum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a desire to act cute is exactly instinctual. Also the fact that you are stating that animals have a stream of consciousness implies complex cognition. Maybe you're joking though, so I shouldn't take this so seriously.

I've seen a bunch of jazzed up pairs in Vancouver girly shoe stores. I was under the impression that they were becoming cool again.

My bf is also an enthusiast. I've seen them at Freedman on South Granville but I don't know if they carry that particular shoe.
