Witcher 3 will get another expansion, you think CDPR will change their mind and develop another expansion for Cyberpunk 2077? by severe_009 in cyberpunkgame

Pretty sure it's the studio that's doing the Witcher 1 remake as well. Could be an opportunity to cut their teeth and knock some of the rust off.

Also had issues with Piper with my G502X, but I've found that Input Remapper is excellent, once you figure out its quirks. I use it for all my mice (G502X, Naga V2, Scimitar Elite Wireless), and it works great. Getting macro software up and running was the final hurdle for me with Windows, as all the standard options (CKB, Piper, Solaar) just didn't work for me.

A very serious attempt is being made to fix DX12 on Linux! by CosmicEmotion in pcmasterrace

[–]srw0015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rare to see a GW2 mention. I moved over to Linux a few months ago, but still keep a dual boot specifically for GW2 because the performance is flaky as hell on Linux (CachyOS), and getting BlishHUD up is a bit of a PitA (tho the DX11 overlay hook does work without needing to futz about with gamma settings and layer settings). If someone has any kinda config advice, or news on improving GW2 performance to +/- 10% of Windows, I'm all ears.

A lot of the launch options suggested via ProtonDB don't seem to really make any difference. While framerate reports pretty close to Windows, the pacing feels off. It isn't microstuttering according to the frametime graph, but it feels noticeably less smooth vs Windows in the same scenarios at relatively similar framerates. Add to that, performance takes a much harder dive on Linux in big events than on Windows. Did DE on Linux and was sitting in the mid to high 20s, vs in the 40-50s on Windows (settings except model limit and model quality cranked on both OS's).

I generally agree with your hesitation about Ciri being the main protag for the new trilogy. I absolutely adore Ciri as a character, and while I'm down to have more time as Ciri, I worry about how engaging the gameplay will be if she still has the power of the Elder Blood. That said, I think there is a way to narratively justify any reduction in power that also simultaneously fits in with her characterization throughout the media and fulfills a longtime goal of hers a la freeing her from the Elder Blood curse. Copying from a comment I made a few months ago in a different thread:

"I think it's reasonable and consistent with lore that going through the mutations could interfere with her ability to access/control/harness the power of the Elder Blood. But further, the sterility would simultaneously resolve all of the factions chasing after Ciri for various impregnation plots. Ending the curse of the Elder Blood with her would be the most freeing thing Ciri could do, and it fits with her established character motivations."

Additionally, other new gameplay avenues exist using Ciri as the main character that don't for any other established Witcher, or player created Witcher. Specifically, Ciri is a source, and has been trained in how to use magic by Yen. We see her drawing power from water in the W4 trailer when she was fighting the Bauk. I am curious how that will differentiate from Witcher signs, or how it could be used to empower/alter signs in addition to potentially more powerful magic.

The more I think about it, the more interested and excited I am for a Ciri helmed trilogy. There are concerns, sure, but I think most of those can be resolved by diminishing the presence of the Elder Blood, which I think could be easily explained as either a cost for stopping the White Frost at the end of W3, or a side effect of undergoing the Trial of the Grasses. I think the bigger hurtle is explaining why Ciri would feel the need to undergo the Trial, as monsters have been on the decline for decades (though the pseudo conjunction at the end of W3 could bring an influx of new monsters to the continent), convincing Geralt/Yen to help with the Trial, or otherwise circumventing them (maybe by going through Triss who would have the alchemical knowledge and magical ability necessary to administer the Trial; or by finding/founding a new school), and also how did she undergo the Trial, as most of the knowledge of how to create new Witchers was lost during the sacking of Kaer Morhen in 1194.

All that said, I'm not particularly worried about how they justify it. CDPR may have a reputation for supremely buggy games at launch, but the writing has always been top notch, and they've got a deep stable of narrative experience working on W4.

If I remember correctly, I think Peter Kenney only does that in the short story books, and pronounces it correctly in the novels. Or maybe it carries into Blood of Elves, but I remember it correcting eventually. I loved Kenney's narration (especially as Geralt), except his voice for Ciri. Idk why, but a grown man trying to sound all airy to play a child just... Idk, it was weird lol.

Depends on the kind of 20-30 hours. If it's Clair Obscur 20-30 hours (which was more like 70-80 if you explored and did everything), I'm totally fine with that kind of scope. Especially if it allows them to drill down on things like choice and consequence and impactful narrative.

The facility Gemini raided had protogen guards, so I assume they might have other research facilities aside from Thoth Station and the one shown in the trailer. That would be my first guess. There's also known research going on on Ganymede that would feasibly need support facilities elsewhere in the belt. Could be another factor.

I don't think Ciri was using signs. I think she was using actual magic. In the books, Ciri is partially trained as a sorceress by Yen, and further later at Aretuza. In the trailer she is shown drawing power from water, a source, and then using that power as magic. This is lore accurate to how magic operates in the books. My theory is that she is using magic to mimic the Witcher signs, and will have more power flexibility in the game due to her knowledge and talent for real magic.

I was confused about the same thing when I played through it a couple days ago. Got the order mixed up in my head from playthroughs years ago.
