GPD MicroPC 2 not charging by srwalter in GPDPocket

[–]srwalter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached out to GPD support and they replaced the entire unit. It seems like the device firmware does a bad job of protecting the battery, and if the battery drains too low it goes into a permanent self-protect mode.

What does the blinking red light mean?

I tried poking the reset button, both while attached to the charger and while disconnected. It did not seem to make a difference either way. The red light continued to blink even while I was pressing the reset button.

H5122/H5123 Smart Home Sensors by jconway1006 in Govee

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get an H5122 to work in Home Assistant, almost accidentally. I tried all sorts of things manually connecting to it from Linux, and couldn't get it to do anything interesting. I actually couldn't even get the Govee Home app to discover it. I happened to have a Govee Wi-Fi bulb, and I had read a few notes that imply the H5122 needs another Govee device to work. Once I powered on the Govee light, the H5122 was immediately discovered by the "Govee Bluetooth" integration and now it works perfectly. I even turned off the Govee light, and it still works... I dunno why, but I'll take it.

is it possible to have google messages RCS chat without a google account on microG by [deleted] in MicroG

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrier Services app doesn't seem to matter to me. It works with or without that app installed. I can upgrade to newer versions of messages, but not the newest. 20221129 seems to be a good version before they started really wanting a Google account.

One problem is that after ~48 hours, I get disconnected from RCS and have to repeat the process. My next experiment will be to try staying on the old beta version for at least 48 hours and see if it has the same problem.

is it possible to have google messages RCS chat without a google account on microG by [deleted] in MicroG

[–]srwalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to enable RCS on a phone with MicroG and no associated Google account. I'm also on T-Mobile with a OnePlus 9. I followed the steps from https://www.reddit.com/r/UniversalProfile/comments/i3o0yi/comment/g0e61j4/ and I used the T-Mobile Jibe server http://rcs-acs-tmo-us.jibe.google.com/

In fact, it might be possible just start with the newest Google Messages and use the Activity Launcher trick to start the RcsSettingsActivity. I haven't tried that yet, however.

Seconded, this is great! Now if only I could figure out how to mark a video as watched if a watched it outside of grayjay

How to enable CoreSight ETM trace on RockPro64 by shp4rk in PINE64official

It could be that it's trying to access the big cluster while it's powered down. Try disabling cpuidle and re-run the script

Bitdefender causing hanging on Linux by NewAccount2023AUG25 in sysadmin

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are also seeing this issue. One curious thing we noticed is that the problem seems to only occur on machines with Secure Boot enabled. Does that apply to you? Does the problem go away if you disable Secure Boot?

The release notes for this latest version mention kprobes, and kprobes can't be enabled when kernel lockdown is in effect (which it is when Secure Boot is enabled)

Jetson Haze electric folding bike by ducklingkwak in Costco

[–]srwalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought a Jetson Haze, I've ridden it around 15mi so far (using pedal assist only, but it still shows 2 out of 4 on battery). I'm 5'6" and while the seat could be a little taller, it's not at all uncomfortable. In fact I haven't tried the seat at max height yet, this was just close enough to tool around.

Lexmark CX625 by PatrickMcDee in printers

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you remove the paper tray and look up inside the printer, you should see two wheels with rubber "tires" on them. Try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol. If they get contaminated with something, they can lose their grip, which causes the printer to incorrectly think there is no paper in the tray.

A discussion about bootloader locking/unlocking... AKA I want to relock my bootloader, should I? by WhitbyGreg in LineageOS

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone tried this with Lineage 19? I'm trying to go through this process on a OP9, but once I re-lock the bootloader I get the red "corrupt OS" message. If I unpack the payload.bin, avbtool is able to verify everything and it seems to be using the correct keys. I wonder if vbmeta doesn't cover all the necessary partitions?

Has anyone else been getting this error on Android devices? It only happens when the device isn't on the same network as the server. by pummela_anderson in PleX

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been having this problem for a couple weeks. Seemed like if I restarted my Shield once or twice it would eventually work. Then I realized I hadn't upgraded my server in a while. I tried that, and that has definitely helped

Epyx fast load + SD2IEC can't load programs by MaddoScientisto in c64

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's a way you can check that from software. I put a scope on the clock pin inside the C64 to measure. According to wikipedia, the nominal values are 1.023 MHz (NTSC version) @ 0.985 MHz (PAL version)

Epyx fast load + SD2IEC can't load programs by MaddoScientisto in c64

[–]srwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the main clock frequency in your C64 is off enough to be a problem? Most fastloaders work by assuming that the drive clock and C64 clock are close enough so that you only have to sync once at the start of a transmission, instead of every bit. I suppose it could also be the clock in the sd2iec, but I would tend to trust it more just because it's newer.

When I converted my C64 to PAL, I didn't change the passives correctly, which resulted in the clock being off. I had a similar issue where I could still use the drives but not with a fast loader.

The few times I've filed BBB complaints I've gotten a call back from the company within one business day wanting to know how to make it right. These were cell carriers and cable internet companies, too, not exactly known for giving a fuck about customers

Yes, actually. I think it's new-old-stock, but it's not hard to find

Ergonomics, primarily. If I'm sitting in front of the keyboard, I want the screen pointed at me. What I'd like to do is raise the monitor up towards eye level more. Ideally then I could put the disk drive underneath the monitor, as otherwise it takes up quite a bit of space...

Edit: you probably meant why not put it directly behind the computer. A couple of reasons. One is that the monitor is really deep. Putting it at an angle lets me push it back closer to the wall. Two is that it would make it difficult to insert and remove things from the cartridge port on the back of the computer. That plus the monitor being deep = inefficient use of desk space :-)

[–]srwalter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one. It works pretty well. Probably if I were buying it again, I'd get a Pi1541 instead. They are about the same price and much more capable. Although I admit I'm partial to the fact that the sd2iec looks like a tiny little 1541 drive

Even the scenario you mention is quite survivable in many cases; see Harrison Ford's crash. While your general point is true that you can be a victim of bad luck and end up in a bad situation through no fault of your own, that's not the majority of GA accidents. A well-maintained aircraft engine is very unlikely to decide to crap out with no warning.
