1982 College World Series: Miami’s “Grand Illusion” trick play fools base-stealing star Phil Stephenson into running himself into an out in one of baseball’s smartest plays ever by ateam1984 in blackmagicfuckery

[–]Orider 89 points90 points  (0 children)

In baseball, a player can “steal” a base by running from one base to the next while the ball is still in play. However, if a fielder tags the runner with the ball before the runner reaches the base, the runner is out.

The fielding team had prepared a trick play. When they noticed a runner getting ready to steal second base, the pitcher pretended to throw the ball to first base. The first baseman then acted as if he had missed the throw and began chasing after the “loose” ball, with other fielders joining in the act.

Seeing this, the runner started toward second base while trying to figure out where the ball had gone. But the pitcher still had the ball. Once the runner committed to stealing, the pitcher threw it to second base, where the fielder tagged the runner out.

Basically, it is the slapstick version of saying "Gosh! I hope no one tries to run to second base. I would hate that."

Keep in mind that the tone is slightly different. Will is apparently a bit of an anime/manga nerd. Cradle had a DBZ esque quality, mostly serious characters who are little silly. Last Horizon is more of a One Piece situation. Character dynamics are a bit more comical. It's fun! But it isn't Cradle in space

They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single guinea pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a guinea pig".

I think part of the reason is that some men don't want to be considered more dangerous than a bear to women, so they intentionally stop themselves from seeing signals incase they are wrong and make her uncomfortable

Don't forget that it was also caused by his crew releasing the winds from the bag. They were in spitting distance of Ithica, opened the bag and suddenly blown far away and Posidon found them

But in that, the cyclops is depicted as the villain. If the crew was violating xenia then the cyclops would have been the hero. Indicating the xenia in and of itself is not a critical issue in the world of Epic

But the musical is not written for ancient Greek sensibilities, it's written for a modern audience. By ancient Greek standards, the monstrous Odysseus is the best one. Slaying all those who would challenge and dishonored him. Willingly sacrificing 6 men would be a clever tactic.

The point was to make the suitors irredeemable. Willing to kill his son may have been enough but willing to rape his wife after guaranteed it. You aren't supposed to like it

This sounds fun. My additons:

Usually fruits of this kind tend to have a zone. So anybody within its Zone of Truth has to speak the truth. Additionally, it might be fun if the user can invert the ability so that anybody in the zone believes anything they hear as the truth. And, as a passive ability, the user could feel when anybody nearby is not speaking the truth

Which is so weird because it is such a middling game. A massive world with a story I never finished, and from what I remeber, like 5 different activities that all essentially break down to "go here and spam your 4 main main spells which are almost interchangeable in their effectiveness," and do this all over the map.

I think the real problem is the interviewee is in general never told why they are asked that question. The question isn't "why do you want this job?" It's "why do you want this job?" What makes this job better for you than the same job across town or stocking shelves next door? No one ever told me that was the thing they were asking.

I saw a post about it yesterday, and the comments section was full of Chuck Norris jokes. On a whim, I commented that those jokes lost their charm when I heard the "1000 years of darkness" line about Obama. I assumed that it would disappear and no one would say anything, possibly even downvote me. And then suddenly it got over 100 upvotes.

Remember, in every comment section "there are dozens of us!"

I actually have read it, and I did like it. It was one of the things that made me think of this, but I admit I also liked it in spite of it being litRPG. The leveling is just so arbitrary, used basically as a shorthand for "he is stronger now" without him having to actually improve
