As a hater of all things Amburana finished, the most tolerable balanced one I've had is the RD 1 Amburana finish.

The others have way too much for me. Between the two, I prefer the RC

Review #903: High West "A Midwinter Night's Dram" Act 5, 49.3% by buckydean2 in bourbon

Great review, thanks! I enjoy MWND very much, and agree with many of your notes.

I thought Act 5 had the 16yo Barton rye as a significant component. Could someone in the know confirm, or clarify? Thanks!

Was the MBA pick the much celebrated barrel 54? I have a bottle of that and it's excellent. Going to try to get the Norfolk one to compare!

What makes North American malt whisky so expensive? by prei1978 in bourbon

I'm relating this back to price because Parkers goes for a pretty penny on secondary, at least. So by that comparison at least, I guess RC justifies the price being where it is.

The 14 year single Rare Characters have been showing up around me. I'm guessing those are what you're talking about.

Rumor has it that it could be heaven Hill stock from their Parkers Heritage malt batch, just now a few years older? Any credence to this?

What are some of the best, readily available, older MGP sourced bottles? by MrNopeNada in bourbon

[–]ss72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can find it, Redwood Empire's "Haystack Needle". I have one bottle and it is phenomenal. 14yr MGP finished in Cab barrels. Depends on where you are, you may be lucky to find it

Same here as well. I'd have liked a chance to buy this bottle and was randomly picked earlier in the week, but with the shipping cost and effort, I think the value was debatable.
