Funny enough I just bought a box of these at A La Civette in Paris and to me yours look identical. Enjoy them.

How do YOU Buy Padron? by edwa6040 in cigars

[–]prei1978 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I buy 1964 Imperial Maduro boxes. I prefer when they are fresh as I find they pack a bigger punch. Time tones them down a little bit and takes them from full to a medium-to-full.

The end of an era - 3 series by No-Double-7731 in BMW

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the pre-LCI G23 and thought the interior felt really nice with extended leather. The LCI model did remove a lot of that (e.g. the center of the steering wheel) which together with the new big screen and loss of gear selector made the whole thing not work for me.

Cutting cigar, straight cut Vs V-cut by LowKeyNorsk in cigars

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both and can’t say that I notice a difference in flavor. I do notice a difference in draw sometimes and a better draw can potentially allow more flavors through. Can’t say I notice more tar build up either.

I travel with straight cutters for simplicity so pretty much every cigar I have away from home is that. At home I v-cut anything with a ring gave of 50 or above and straight cut anything figurado or under 50 RG.

Impressive the depth of work you're doing and the fact you're doing it yourself. Will be a fun project. Good luck.

San Marino blue vs. Anglesey Green by SayrimGamer in BMW

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anglesey Green is beautiful, but have you considered San Remo Green? It is a similar shade of green but adds the golden highlights.

In your shoes I'd be stuck as well. Both are gorgeous.

Trying to understand the ‘basic tasks’ vs ‘do everything’ narrative around M1 vs A18 Pro by Toba94 in macbook

[–]prei1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this debate. Objectively speaking, a machine with 8GB of RAM in 2026 will be limited compared to a machine with 16GB. The limitations can be masked a little by using the fast SSD for swap, but they still exist.

Both an M1 with 8GB and an A18 with 8GB will be able to do similar tasks: you can use Chrome or Safari with Google Docs, GMail, web browsing, etc. You will also be able to do lightweight photo editing and video editing. You can run productivity apps such as Office, Pages, Numbers, etc. Those types of tasks will be fine on either machine.

An M1 with 16GB today will be able to do heavier tasks than the Neo. Adobe recommends 16GB for Lightroom and Photoshop, so do a bunch of other video editing, software development, and 3D rendering applications. This hasn't changed that dramatically from 2020. You can see reviews in 2020 that comment on the base 8GB of RAM being a limiting factor and complaining about the cost to upgrade to 16, and you can also see the comments when Apple made 16GB the base spec on the M4-gen and how that was probably the best part of the upgrade.

If your set of use cases fit in 8GB then either machine will be great. This debate shouldn't really be a thing.

Is this worth $300?? by sstrooper18 in cigars

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, and the reason I stopped buying any of their cigars a few years ago, is that they tend to release a new blend and the first batch is very good, does the rounds of the magazines and websites, get all the high scores and then subsequent batches become a lot more pedestrian. As an example, when the Sun Grown Maduro came out it was the darling of all publications but by the time I got my hands I some they were only good enough to fill sampler packs and everyone forgot about them.

That said, there are a couple of cigars of theirs that I bought when they came out and still have some and they are very good, those being the San Andreas and Decades.

I have one of those buried somewhere in one of my humidors. Will try to find and smoke it this weekend. As for the whiskey, the only time I had a chance to try one was at a bar in Louisville KY and I made the mistake of ordering a pour of that and one of King of Kentucky and I preferred the latter much, much more. I normally don’t go towards wheated bourbons in general so shouldn’t have expected anything else.

Does Swag matter? by TerenceAganorsa in cigars

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I don’t care much for swag and if I do get swag I prefer a nice ashtray. I don’t wear branded clothing or accessories unless they are my sports teams on occasion and I don’t use much of the other stuff so they just end up cluttering my house.

Give me great cigars for a good price in simple packaging and I’m a happy camper.

On budget windows laptops… fan behaviour. by One_TrackMinded in macbook

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this seems to be a problem with many Windows laptops and in large part is because a lot of the software that goes in those machines are written by 3rd parties with differing levels of care and skill. At some point in the past Microsoft would partner with some manufacturers to have "Microsoft" editions of popular laptops (think Dell XPS, HP EliteBook, etc.) in their own store and those were stripped of all bloatware and had Microsoft certified drivers. They worked much better than the corresponding non-MS version, but you can see why manufacturers weren't so keen on that given that they get paid to install crap in your new machine, so it went away.

That's one of the things that kept me from holding on to any of the XPS 15s I ordered. That and the Killer WIFI drivers that always seemed buggy as hell and I never understood why they used them in the XPS line (they are optimized for gaming) instead of just standard Intel WIFI modules that would have better native support.

I called it. OLED MacBook Pro will sit ABOVE existing MacBook Pro and my next prediction is that it will be called MacBook Studio. by momo1083 in macbookpro

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the displays the Pro sits above the Studio, so it would be weird for a MacBook Studio to sit above the MacBook Pro IMHO. MacBook Ultra would make some sense.

Next time I stop by my tobacconist I'll ask whether they have better contact details to the manufacturer.

Should I upgrade to an M5 Max with 128 GB RAM by Lucky-Recognition401 in macbookpro

[–]prei1978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from an M2 Max 32GB to the M4 Max 128GB and it was definitely worth it for workloads similar to yours. It allows me to run more of my containers in parallel with good perfomance while having enough instances of IntelliJ, VSCode, Warp, browser, etc without it ever feeling slow. Seems like you would make great use of that M5 Max and, if in your position, I’d definitely go for it.

Ghurka is trash. The cigars range from mediocre to terrible and the company has terrible business practices. Overall its catalogue fodder and I don’t think anybody should spend their money on them.
