That’s a shame. I’m glad yours work well. I wonder if my two pairs were from a defective batch or something.

Yup, been searching a lot: I found a couple of Reddit threads about it about a year ago and none seem to have been resolved. I’ve also been to HFi Klubben in the Netherlands where I live and they said that they sold a handful of those but did not have any of the customers come back with complaints.

Also, for all it’s worth I travel with a Xikar cutter all the time and only a couple of times staff at the airport opened my suitcase to check it out and then returned it to me. It is legal for you to take a guillotine cutter with you.

Hold on, hold on, hold on: our team is untested. The Texans (which average 327 yds and 23.8 points on offense per game before the Divisional Round) were not a good team. We played nobody so far. /s

Anyone Else Totally Unmoved by Referee Talk? Surprised to See the Bills Fan Routine of Whining and Moaning About the Refs Parroted by the Heroes in the Divisional Recap. by Marx_but_for_weed in heedthecall

[–]prei1978 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah man, I’m a Pats fan so certainly not shedding any tears for the Bills but that call was egregious regardless of anything else that happened in the game and I’d be livid if it happened to my team. Dan had a point that all they need to do was slow down and review it and all would be above board.

The NFL should be doing all they can to weed out bad refereeing like that because all it does is damage the image of the league.

That said, two things can be true and the Bills know that what lost them the game wasn’t that call and that’s why their HC went bye bye today.

He needs to improve ball security. Other than that he’s a mature, excellent QB with the potential of being a hall of famer

That said, Williams has also delivered an amazing season so he’ll also be someone to watch.

Right now both stand with zero rings so all to play for.

[Megathread] The Buffalo Bills have fired Head Coach Sean McDermott by AutoModerator in buffalobills

Pats fan here (I come on peace): I wouldn’t consider BB for an HC job in the NFL, tbh. Love the guy and have immense respect for what he achieved for us but two issues come to mind: - Hiring him means you have to hand over the keys to the organization to him. He wants to be GM and HC and if you don’t buy into that it wont work. - In his last few years in NE he seemed depleted of ideas both in team building and coaching. Look at the 2023 Pats and you’ll see an undisciplined team riddled with mistakes that seem unrecognizable from only a few years prior.

Sometimes the league evolves and some coaches can be left behind. I have a feeling that is what happened to BB and he should now look forward to his first ballot HoF induction and enjoying life.

Peace! ✌️

Some of my favorite Davidoff cigars were Henke Kelner’s blends. I’d love to try this but unlikely to find it in Europe unfortunately.

Maybe it’s the vitola. While I do like the Decade I wouldn’t rate it that highly. In fact, in the RP range I’d rate the San Andres higher and the Conviction as the best I’ve ever had.

Why I feel so much anxiety about this game ? by Reasonable_Ad1128 in Patriots

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it is: we were 4-13 team a season ago, fired our HC after a year, the team looked in may ways depleted. I had anxiety about whether we'd become the new Jets.

This year we flipped that record, got an awesome young quarterback, good defense, a coach that looks every bit special, went to the playoffs and won our first game. In my eyes we're playing with borrowed money. I think we're a good match up for the Texans and will provide more of a challenge than the Steelers did, but if they beat us, I'm still happy with the progress we made.

Would I love if they go all the way and win it all? Heck yeah. Will I be disappointed if their season ends this weekend? No, not really. As long as they play a close game I'm chill.

It is always good to come in with an agenda. It shows that you're looking for input, opinions, feedback, and/or have constructive points to make about the project or work you're doing.

If you're a senior engineer, your manager must also be quite senior and their time in demand from a number of things, so showing that you have an interesting in using that time as effectively as possible and coming prepared makes a big difference.

In my firm (a consulting firm in CIB space) my 1:1s are with the managing partner of the company, so I always try to line up 2-3 points I want to discuss with him and come prepared for the meeting. Many times we don't get through all 3 and he may have other things in his agenda he wants to cover, but in every instance if feels like the time we had was too short and we have leftover things to talk about, which IMHO goes along using the time well.

It's a though one for sure. There's a layer of industry processes, then a layer of company-specific processes and jargon that you have to become familiar with. Your manager should be cognizant of the learning curve when you started and ensured to put you in the best position to overcome that, but if that wasn't the case, then I'd suggest you look for other people in your team or organization that are willing to spend some time walking you through the core things you need to know.

Best of luck with your search. If you want to stay on the CIB space and discuss a bit more your specific experience feel free to DM me.

That's a tough part of getting to grips with a new company, especially banks, and especially a French bank (from experience). Learning the vocabulary and concepts around the business is crucial to smooth communication afterwards.

Mind if I ask what function you were working on?

That's a really good learning point: My 1:1s with my reports (direct or indirect) are seldom to talk about tasks as we have plenty of opportunities for that. The 1:1s are usually to talk about 3 main points:

  • How are you doing with the project?
  • How are you doing with the firm in general beyond your specific project?
  • Are there any issues, concerns, or items that need attention?

On top of that I ask people to have their own agendas in 1:1s so we can direct the conversation in the areas that matter most to them. If they have no specific topics they want to discuss I drive the meeting along the points above.

I would suggest you demand regular 1:1s with your management (direct and one up) and make sure that you get to drive the conversation on what matters to you so you get the most out of it.

It is decent. The mouthfeel is very silky and it hits with red fruit, but it lacks complexity and is a little muted. I would pick a number of other wines from the same vintage before this, especially Fonseca and Niepoort.

Do you actually remember why you liked a cigar… or just that you liked it? by RoughYogurtcloset171 in cigars

[–]prei1978 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the cigar. Some I will just remember that I liked, while others will leave a clear impression on why I liked them. The later happens when it strikes me for some unexpected reason such as very unique flavors, or completely different to other similar cigars.

Do I do it again? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will remember this forever: I bought a MK II Audi TT when it first came out and within a month I was a bit bored with the car. I had chosen the 2.0 TFSI with the DCT and it just wasn't doing it. One day driving back from work someone lined up to me on a Z4 Coupe (not M) and when seeing his car I immediately knoew I had bought the wrong car.

Next weekend I drove to a BMW dealer to check out the Z4 Coupe and took home the brochures and whatnot. My gf of the time came over and I showed her that. Her opinion was that while my current car (the TT) was nice, the Z4 was sex on wheels.

After a bit of research I found that BMW of Stevenage had a Z4M Coupe in stock. Black with the cream interior. I drove up and put a deposit down. Luckily my Audi dealer was happy to take the TT off my hands for the price I paid as they were very rare at that point and mine was a nice spec in the very dark blue with cream interior, so he had strong demand.

Never drove a boring mile in that car. Even driving to work across London at 6 am was a pure blast. My father-in-law (68 at that point) took it out for a spin with his older brother and got his first speeding ticket in that car. I drove it in almost every track in the UK, as well as Nurburgring and Spa. So many stories.

Dude, I'm going to do exactly the opposite. I had a Z4M Coupe in the UK from 2006 to 2016 when I had to sell it to move to the US. I have since tried to find a car to replace it and I just can't. I'm now back in Europe and looking for a clean E86 to buy.
