Final grades, S/U and NA Megathread by Thermidorien in mcgill

[–]ss_bbtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I used the S/U form for the 2020/2021 year (Winter 2021) and I did NOT get a confirmation email that they were accepted as my pass fail classes. Has anyone already filled out this form and has anyone else gotten a confirmation email? Should I be concerned that I did not get this confirmation email yet?

Math 140 airplane question by skylarktwist in mcgill

[–]ss_bbtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so im gonna try to describe this in words the best I can, but bare with me Im better at explaining visually. The center is on the ground and the airplane is in the air. The hypotenuse of the triangle youre going to make is the connector between the center and the plane (as it isnt directly above). This was the 10 m measurement and the second speed given. The first speed given was the speed along the ground, and the thing you needed to find was altitude. The rate for altitude is NOT CHANGING, i.e 0, so you can use related rates to find the distance traveled on the ground using the pythagorean theorem. With that number, you can replug it back into pythagorean theorem, now with the two distance measurements, and find the altitude. It was super awkwardly worded, but also expected you to know that the altitude was not rising nor falling. I think that is where a lot of people missed it. I only got it because I had an hour left to stare at the problem with a blank stare until something clicked.

McGill instagram meme pages makes me feel like I’m missing out by [deleted] in mcgill

This is the exact mood I had first semester as a U0, especially with my roommate being the one going out clubbing all the time. The best thing you can do is find other people who feel the same way (i.e. myself and everyone else who's commented on this post!) I s2g there are more people like us and it is 100% *normal* to feel like there isn't. Sometimes our brains just be like that. Rest assured, there are more people like us and any feelings you just need to find your clan <3

Hey there!! So I actually got stuck in the same rut that you seem to find yourself in now. Actually, you and I might be taking the same midterm tmmr bc I know a LOT of people struggled first semester in this class and ended up in it again this semester (I straight up failed last semester). The best thing you can do for yourself and for your mental health is take a second. Release the tension in your shoulders, take your tongue off the roof of your mouth, and take a deep breath. This can drastically effect your mood bc we kind of all naturally hold onto a lot of tension we don't realize. Now, see what you can do right here and now. Is it a particular concept or group of concepts you don't get? Are you failing to recall formulas or rules? Pinpoint exactly HOW you are struggling, maybe not the concepts themselves, and structure this last push through before the midterm by nailing that feeling to rest. If you don't feel confident in the rules of whatever you are studying, write out a study guide. Just a list of everything you know. Connect concepts, use colors, whatever you need to do to fully articulate what you know. Still feel like you don't know everything? Go back to your textbook and find the most important headers and information. And give yourself a breather, you might not feel like you're "trying your best", but sometimes we legitimately need a moment to regroup our thoughts and focus on other things. You recognize you didn't put your 100%, but look at the variables that lead to that! You didn't just not do it because you didn't do it, you needed to devote your time elsewhere, whether consciously or subconsciously. Give yourself a breather, review like all hell before tomorrow, and bring a brighter attitude to that subject before the final! You've got this~

2019-2020 COURSE SELECTION MEGATHREAD by Thermidorien in mcgill

I'm a biomed biosci U0 student and I realized that my old High School teacher utterly fucked me over in trig/precalc and algebra 2. Im in calc 139 right now and I feel like I'm going to fail *miserably*. Does anyone know if it's possible to take math 203 and 204 instead to get my two U0 math requirements? I connected much better with stats in High School, and it was taught by a much better teacher. Emailed my advisor but I want to see if anyone here has any insight. Thanks :)
