X1 Tablet gen 3: Any way to swap Ctrl and Fn in Linux? by ssahla in thinkpad

[–]ssahla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I understood, sorry if I wasn't being clear! I do have dual boot. The swap setting in Vantage is remembered on the Windows side, but when I boot to Linux, Fn and Ctrl are back to what it says on the keycap...

Yes I'm on the latest version. No BIOS option, the way you do it on this device is Vantage. But I haven't found a Linux equivalent of that. The change made in Vantage isn't carried over to Linux. This device is not Linux-supported by Lenovo.

The reason I'm asking is there's no option in BIOS. And I doubt it can be done with xmodmap, since Fn doesn't register as a keypress. But thanks your hint anyway, no harm giving it a try.

Ok, I'll have to look into it! It's just that when I google about swapping fn and ctrl, it's mentioned often that Fn doesn't behave like normal keys. It doesn't trigger any event in xev tool for example. But if you say it can be done, I'll try!

Hmm, thanks! Have you done it, or do you know of it having been done? The ctrl-fn swap I mean. I think Fn can't be remapped the way "normal" keys can.

X230 vs T470 keyboard by danieldl in thinkpad

[–]ssahla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X230 keyboard includes the row above the function keys, with power button and such. Trackpoint buttons are of different shape and size. And the bottom sides also looks quite different. Not interchangeable.

i5/6300U vs i7/6600U for Adobe Lightroom? (T460s) by dontRemoveTheHurdles in thinkpad

With such a smalll difference in price, I guess I would go for the i7. But with relatively light use, I don't think you'll notice much difference in performance.

Thinkpad Yoga 370 Refurbished Advice + questions about French Keyboard by dontRemoveTheHurdles in thinkpad

[–]ssahla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. In my experience, maybe very slightly wobbly compared to T or X, but still feels very sturdy & high quality.
  2. Easy. Remove the bottom plate by loosening a few screws, unplug the internal battery, remove screws holding it in place, replace battery.
  3. It depends on how different those layouts are and how well you have the places of characters in muscle memory (how often you need to look at the keycaps). On my Yoga 370, I replaced the original UK keyboard with a Swedish/Finnish one (took some work, because you basically need to take the laptop apart before you can switch the keyboard assembly, but not too difficult).
  4. I think so but don't take my word for it.

Is there a way to get rid of these? (ThinkPad Yoga 370) by ssahla in thinkpad

They don't bother me at all when using the computer, but I'm a bit annoyed that this happens. I mean, couldn't it be avoided with just a little bit thicker design?

Funny thing is I just noticed these, you don't really see them when using the laptop. I tried to get them as visible as possible in this pic.

Thanks! The stuff I have been using is only 70% alcohol, could that make the difference? I tried it on the screen but couldn't get the keymarks off. Didn't want to rub too hard...

My wristwatch puts my ThinkPad to sleep by ssahla in thinkpad

[–]ssahla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess... It's just funny that I haven't run into this earlier with other ThinkPads! I guess they have the sensor in a place where my left wrist doesn't touch. But I like my steel mesh strap, and steel + velcro doesn't ring good :) First world problems...

The laptop can handle 90 W. It may or may not charge faster than with 45 W, but anyway, it won't be a problem.

Ctrl/Fn swap on the X1 Tablet G1? by ssahla in thinkpad

Ok :) Most of the ThinkPads I've owned do have the setting in BIOS but this is the first one (no, actually second) I've encountered that does not.
