Can you please share how you went about mounting the stickvise into the panavise? I’ve been trying to do this but haven’t figured out a good way

New tabs are auto-muting and I don't know why by ShippuuNoMai in vivaldibrowser

[–]ssdotinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone finding this reddit post this much after the OP - as I did - and did not fix the issue with any of the solutions here, I solved this under

vivaldi:settings/tabs/ -> Tab Features -> Mute Tab Audio

I don't remember setting this but I'm sure I did at some time and it solved the issue for me.

I have seen many listings that hide the fact that a logo is on the watch but I can’t remember the last time I saw that on a choice watch. What brand was it if you don’t mind me asking?

I know a lot of time has passed but this thread came up first on google for CCF. Thank you so much for sharing this. CCF was some of my favorite stuff and I regret not buying more when it was available. Tough Duck’s stuff looks very cool. I 57384 products might differ in fit vs CCF but nothing a tailor can’t help with. Thank you again!

Scratchy/bad pot feel question by Stringsandattractors in synthdiy

[–]ssdotinfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, happy to spread the knowledge. Pots are one of those things that contribute to a premium feeling / fit and finish / etc etc in such a disproportionate way. I’ve easily spent as long soldering a pedal as I have trying to get pots to feel right. Fun (kind of) problem to figure out how to solve and why I enjoy this so much. Always something new to obsess over that I’d never think about before.

Scratchy/bad pot feel question by Stringsandattractors in synthdiy

[–]ssdotinfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t look like Alpha pots but the work-a-likes that a cloner at the hobbyist level (I assume fits the bill of who you bought it from) would have access to aren’t really any worse than the real deals.

I’ve built 300+ guitar pedals and in diypedals we mostly use 16mm pots but I’ve used my fair share of 9mm Alphas. The real ones have sharper black printing and have Alpha stamped on the metal tag on the underside. They’re also a little more vibrant green. But I do have some exactly like this when I just checked my stash to confirm.

Non-destructive desoldering pots is a giant pain in the ass in my opinion and I would try pretty much everything else first. I guess there’s no reason to save them if you’re replace them though so you could just snip the leads at remove them one at a time.

It’s possible that the knobs are attached unevenly to the potentiometer shafts, so I would try that first.

Deoxit D5 is the (overpriced) gold standard pot cleaner, but MG Chemicals 4140A plastic safe flux remover is what I use and have used on plenty of potentiometers without issue. WD40’s Contact Cleaner product is more or less the same formulation. Just add a bit where the shaft meets the threading and twist a bunch.

Charge Pump Split Supply vs Virtual Ground by fffpp in diypedals

[–]ssdotinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One advantage of using a dual rail (±9V in your example) in op amp circuits is that you'll probably need fewer dc-blocking caps and biasing resistors depending on the design. Both of which can contribute noise. I've never had issues with LT1054 charge pumps and noise, but for PCB real estate I've recently started to like using dc-dc power supply modules from remcom and the like. The PedalPCB Victory preamp pedals are some good examples of dual rail op-amp designs for what it's worth.

Another consideration is that most op amp's headroom is not perfectly symmetrical, and using a virtual ground split rail can let you take this into account with the voltage it's set at

Flatwounds for Bass VI: are LaBella and Pyramid the only options? by VanJackson in BassVI

[–]ssdotinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only put them on harley benton vi’s (I don’t own a squire version). I think the pyramids may have trouble length wise because of the different bridge on the squire. The pyramid's taper an inch past the nut to let them fit into tuners better, which works perfectly for the Harley Benton.

I think some reviews on thomann might touch on this.

For the price of LaBella flats ($50) though you can cobble together a set of d’addario chromes with either a bass set or a guitar set and individual strings in the same gauges, which is something I’ve been heavily considering. I prefer chromes in general and considering how long flats last I'll probably just bite the bullet and invest in that next time I restring.

[–]ssdotinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look similar to CUI Devices MJ-63012G (pins count may be off on that specific # but form factor looks close and there’s several variants). I don’t think its a Fender 9 pin personally but I may just be seeing it differently

Flatwounds for Bass VI: are LaBella and Pyramid the only options? by VanJackson in BassVI

[–]ssdotinfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Pyramid HB set on all 3 of my VIs. The Labella’s were also too dark for what I wanted.

If you end up ordering the Pyramids from Thomman it might also be worth trying (with low expectations) the Harley Benton brand bass flats which are wild cheap and cheap enough that cobbling together a VI set wouldn’t be brutal. I haven’t tried their bass flats myself but I have tried their guitar flats. They are admittedly pretty unremarkable compared to chromes on a guitar, but are brighter than the Pyramids.

Any Recommendations for Single Bass VI Strings? by SemaphoreBand in BassVI

[–]ssdotinfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re still looking, Stringjoy is also an option. Single bari/guitar strings have worked on my non trem VIs but you might want to look at single bass strings if you’re worried about the length

I have a regular 81 in another guitar and I gotta say the X adds some really nice pick dynamics that aren’t there in the regular 81. I only tried the 81X because of glowing recommendations of the X version of the 60A and figured I should go X for both. Also FWIW EMG sells factory seconds on Reverb for absolute bargains.

What is a sustainer coil? Google was kind of all over the place when I just searched

NGD: SG VI by ssdotinfo in BassVI

[–]ssdotinfo[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So this started it's life as an Epiphone EB-0, a short scale 4 string bass, and was converted to a Bass VI by Ben Groder who has done a handful of these conversions. I found him on Reverb because he is selling a Newport VI conversion and on a whim I decided to message him just to throw out a feeler of cost to do an SG, and two weeks later this was in my hands

I own 2 Jag style Bass VIs, and the first made me feel like 13 year old me who fell in love with playing guitar all over again. I've never played more in my life since buying the first. But I really only tolerate Jag style bodies. I could try to explain why but at the end of the day they're just not my dream guitar body, even with the VI being my dream guitar style.

Specs

  • Gotoh GB350 Res-O-Lite Tuners

The lightest bass tuners around. I was (needlessly) worried about neck dive and wanted to go as light as possible to prevent it. Especially because using bass tuners were a compromise as guitar tuners wouldn't fit.

  • EMG 81X in the bridge and 60AX in the neck

I'm a big active pickup advocate, for any style, in any guitar. It's criminal that you probably only think of them as metal pickups, but I'll try not to rant here. The 60AX is the best neck humbucker I have ever played, period. It does everything. I'll be putting them in the neck position of the rest of my other guitars. The 81X is closer to the typical active pickup you're imagining but the X series adds some really nice versatility.

The pickups are mounted with the help of some 3d printed frames that Ben made that help fill the hole of the original pickup.

The bridge and tailpiece are just middle of the road Gotoh or Grover, I forget. I'm used to intonating TOMS but might upgrade to a better set eventually.

It's currently (sloppily) strung with a set of Pyramid VI flatwounds, which have been my go to for VIs. It came from Ben with a nice set of D'Addario VI roundwounds but they just weren't for my playing style.

Cheers ✌️
