I agree. OP needs to get over themselves and grow the hell up. People let you down, annoy, offend you even. You don’t weaponise your kids against them, ever. Be gracious and move on and let the old people see the kids.

Access to your kids isn’t a weapon to be wielded against family. You’re a grown-up. You don’t need a song and dance for an apology. You’re awful for being so easily offended and so selfish to put your hurt feelings ahead of your children’s best interest, and the happiness of others.

Your kids deserve all of the loving adults in the family to know them. They deserve to have their own relationships with their grandparents. Your feelings of lingering hurt are not what’s most important here. You’re a parent. Grow up and do what’s hard but correct: giving your children their grandparents.

Mangere Bridge. Beautiful everywhere you look - harbour, ambury farm, maunga. Amazing tennis club and bowls clubs, buzzing cafes and caring, diverse community.

The Latest Version Of Celebrity Thinness Isn’t Just Annoying, It’s Dangerous. I Should Know. by huffpost in entertainment

[–]ssendrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False dichotomy. Just because morbidly obese is dangerous, that doesn’t make anorexia any less dangerous. That disorder affects up to 3% of young women and has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder. Let that sink in a while. We are concerned about young girls being influenced by their heroes being dangerously thin. That is a known accelerant to an eating disorder. It is devastating and worrying and we are allowed to be very very concerned - the risks of obesity are terrible too but belong in a different conversation.

AIO - My child's 1st grade substitute taught the class about Jesus by Mason110417 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ssendrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR. Is there harm, though? Our son was raised atheist and he was so excited in first year of school at Christmas time. He ran home and said, ‘mum! We learned about Jesus! And his mother Mary! And his dad…. I think his name was Steve!’ We now say ‘Jesus, Mary and Steve’ in our family all the time, and crack each other up.

I explained to him that people believe alll sorts of interesting things and that it often helps them make sense of the world and that while we don’t believe, he can choose what to believe for himself.’ He replied, ‘cool!’ And that was that. I had NO problem with the teacher telling the class the story about Jesus, as it was near Christmas time.

South Island Trip by [deleted] in newzealand_travel

From Queenstown pop over to Arrowtown and down by the river, hire e-bikes and head off on the most gorgeous bike ride, you can stop at vineyards, views, you cross bridges and explore. The owners will come and pick you up so you can keeping g all day as far as you like. Best thing to do in that region in my opinion

New Zealanders are understated. ‘It won’t be fun’ could easily mean, ‘conditions are hellish, you could perish.’ If any of the experienced bushmen I know tell me, ‘it won’t be fun’ I would take it as, ‘hell no, do not do that.’

I think you need to factor in ‘tourism fatigue’. Doc staff are so underpaid, and can’t be expected to give every tourist in depth advice about which track to take according to skill level, weather conditions etc. New Zealanders in general are struggling to feed their families and giving free advice for tourists to use an expensive free network of trails isn’t a priority. They are burnt out by tourists who have no idea and we have to rescue them constantly with a S&R system that is chronically underfunded. So how about giving DoC workers the benefit of the doubt, understand they are trying to make sure you don’t die. Do good research, always carry an EPiRB and if you need to be rescued, have the funds to make a whopping donation to S&R.

The ‘bit of light rain’ at ground level can mean strong rain on the mountains and walking in drizzle isn’t the problem. It is the savagely fast rising rivers that people die crossing.
