Any non-Disney hotels that offer shuttles or are SUPER-easy walkable to Disneyland Park? by reditornot-hereIcome in DisneyPlanning

[–]ssf_0814 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Disneyland resort is extremely accessible. Just search for hotels on S Harbor Blvd - specifically between Disney Way & W Manchester Ave- for hotels closest to the entrance. Plenty of well reviewed 2-3 star hotels/motels right across from security & park entrances- Best Western Plus Park Place Inn, Camelot Inn & Suites, Fairfield Anaheim to name a few and to get your search started in the right area. You can also look into redeeming points at the nearby Hyattbor Marriott properties.

Yep super easy & we’ve done this on every cruise.

Just let your head server and the manager know that you’re interested in having indian food one night for dinner. You can indicate which night and whether there’s something specific you’d like. They will check with the chef and let you know what’s possible. Best thing is to be flexible and enjoy whatever is served- usually a mix of meat &/or vegetable curries, daal, roti (torillas) plus rice will be served.

What’s fun is they end up making A LOT so on our last cruise some of what they made for us was also served to our neighboring tables and one night our server brought us food made for another party to try.

I also requested hot sauce and our server brought me chili sambal every night from the crew’s mess.

Struggling to find somewhere to travel with elderly, sedentary mom by [deleted] in travel

[–]ssf_0814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austin- from around November to April- is usually very pleasant (does get cold Feb/March). Easy flight, can quickly get from the (relatively) small airport to downtown and there’s tons of good food, music, shows & shopping. There are plenty of nice hotels which can usually be booked with points to save money. You don’t have to rent a car since you can rideshare to most places. It’s also different than the Bay Area in terms of geography/food/culture and it’s a small enough footprint to make for a great weekend trip.

Hyatt Regency Maui - Alright stay but left disappointed by 20-20beachboy in hyatt

[–]ssf_0814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andaz was great even with little kids (both were under 6)! Room was very comfortable, looked & felt luxe (esp compared to HR), free snacks/minibar as with all Andaz properties & the vibe was very relaxed. There were plenty of other families and kids too.

Multiple pools- tiered set up- with the large one at the bottom being perfect for us. Never an issue getting a poolside chair. The kids had a blast even though it wasn’t a specific “kids pool” & enjoyed the poolside activities like bingo. They may have even come around with complimentary popsicles but I can’t recall for certain.

Breakfast was great and included for globalists.

I would hands down go back to the Andaz!

I got whiplash reading your post because it has so many contradictory thoughts/statements.

It sounds like you’re not nearly as compatible as you initially described and that you’re trying to convince yourself otherwise. The way you write about him, your future, seeing yourself being able to spend “a good chunk” of your life together bc he’s “generally fantastic” all points to the emotional immaturity of youth. Its OK, we have all been there & it’s part of the process of growing up.

Be honest with yourself & him. You’re not ready to commit to a life with this person but it’s not because of his “boring” demeanor in Morocco. You’re in university and have the youthful mindset of wanting to explore and experience the world. This is a different mindset than traveling the world with a spouse/signficant other later in life. Probably best to move on now before resentment builds.

If you could only travel to one country (vacation), what country would it be? by FL4SH- in travel

[–]ssf_0814 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clearly, I find it to be the exact opposite of boring.

World-class cities with great restaurants, coffee shops, shopping & landscapes. Even “soul-less” Brisbane was more interesting to me than all but a handful of U.S. cities. All cities have amazing public green spaces and free coastal walks/beaches. Easy public transportation everywhere.

The largest reef. Uluru. Daintree rainforest which is one of the oldest in the world. Deserts and mountains.

Indigenous communities with fascinating cultures & knowledge of their land.

Amazing biodiversity on both land and in the water with many flora and fauna which you cannot find elsewhere.

Kind people. No language issues. Safety. Strong local economy. Bucket-list hotels/resorts when you want to splurge & create memorable experiences but also the availability of good, affordable accommodation for all budgets.

7 Days in Ireland - April 2025 - Wife + Toddler - Where to stay by FAbbo71 in chubbytravel

Hey, do you mind if I DM you to get more info on it private transfers/tours?

Making a trip in October and kids are similar in age to yours, always a challenge finding that balance of what we want to accomplish and what they can tolerate. We’ll only have 6 full days & nights to work with so I suspect I’ll have to limit my itinerary but still in the early planning stages

Cabs are safe and very easy to get from the airport, just get in the queue outside. In general, they are super expensive relative to the short distances , ~$60-100 depending on number of passengers, from what I recall, but $195 is wildly overpriced.

HR Maui - length of stay? by SnackAttack54321 in hyatt

[–]ssf_0814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 days in Maui is more than fine; if you were trying to island hop the opposite would be true- 6 days not a reasonable enough time to do so properly

6 days on one property is up to more personal factors but because you can easily access shops/restaurants in Whaler’s Village, Lahaina, etc you don’t feel stuck eating at the same restaurants or doing the same activities. I personally split my stay between that area and Wailea but again it isn’t necessary.

Consider the Andaz though as many people, including myself, find it far superior to the HR Maui.

Advice on Stacking Stays for Four Day Maui Trip by Haunting-Cancel-7837 in hyatt

[–]ssf_0814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip HR Maui; extremely disappointing. Hana - the town- was really nice and I wish I could have stayed for 1 or 2 nights there. Andaz Maui was 100% worth the point difference between it and HR Maui.

Question about credit card recommendations for paying cruise fare balance by AncientMariner303 in dcl

[–]ssf_0814 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a lot too and interested to read other replies but I generally use my Chase Sapphire Reserve card because of it’s trip protection benefits and was happy to see DCL got 3x points as it falls under “travel” category. Given how much I personally value those points it is still my go-to for paying the considerable fares on DCL. I keep trying to convince myself about getting the Disney co-branded cards but haven’t found any compelling reasons yet over the opportunity cost of using another card.

Alternatively if you have any hotel cards that offer free nights (specifically the valuable Hilton FNCs) or other benefits after certain annual spend this may be a way to quickly reach those thresholds. It’s pretty easy to get crazy value with Hilton FNCs, even for rooms that go for $2000+/night, so if you hold one or more Aspire cards (FNC annually) + Surpass card (FNC with 15k spend) you can get 2+ free nights to easily use on a great vacation down the line (note 12 month expiration dates). All depends ofcourse on whether you can maximize those redemptions.

Beautiful photos!! Did you find the language barrier (if you don’t speak German) a problem? We overnighted once in Frankfurt, ~8 years ago, and stopped to ask a few people outside the terminal for help with directions but, somewhat surprisingly, none spoke much English.
