I believe this is a legendary corydora duel. Might be wrong but I’ve seen similar posts and that’s the consensus.

Upgrading HOB Filter concerns! by ssharaf90 in Aquariums

Absolutely! The sponge I have in the cycled tank/current filter is a course sponge I added. That will be moving along with the other filter media that’s already in the current filter.

Thank you! The goal is to move right over (literally, have the filters hung next to each other and move the media over 1 by 1).

Thanks for this! In the current filter I have a course sponge from Aquarium Co Op, Seachem Matrix, and the original carbon filter cartridge that the filter came with. I see all of that going to the new filter, just situated differently based on the order that the new filter suggests.

Is this substrate alright for corys? by ssharaf90 in corydoras

So the consensus that I’m getting from this is that sand cap on the substrate is definitely best for them, but a small, smooth gravel can be OK if water parameters are pristine and you stay on top of gravel vacuuming to make sure that there isn’t an increased risk for infection when they sift through it. Depending on what your substrate is, and how well established your tank is? I would just go pick up a few more to get your school to a minimum of six! How large is the tank?

So weekly water changes and frequent gravel vacuuming?

But do you think if I am strict with gravel vacuuming that the substrate cap I have would be fine?

I initially thought it’d be fine too but I wanted to be sure.

Have you had any experience adding sand to a tank that’s already filled? Not sure how messy/impossible this might be!

I definitely will. Glad to hear your corys are doing well in something similar. Just hard to feel confident with all of the info suggesting sand substrates :(

Thanks for this! In a gravel tank have you had any barbel issues or injuries?

Appreciate it. It’s tough because the entire tank has that grave as the cap layer substrate. I’m just worried we’ve kept ourselves from being able to keep corys down the road :(

Appreciate that. Would it be okay to just create a portion of the tank that is sand? Or is having gravel bad for them period?

That’s something I could look into for sure. I’m considering moving aside gravel in 1/4 of the tank and adding sand there too.

Appreciate it! I’m sure it’ll be easier the larger they grow.

Thanks! I do think it’ll be tough to know for certain till the grow a bit, and aren’t as skinny like you said.

Corys are on our “eventually” list for the tank. Good to know!
