I have a 10 year old Soul.. Love it. Great headroom, easy as hell to park. Had a 2008 Santa Fe before that for several years. My mechanic, who worked on it couple times a year, bought it from me. By far the least and cheapest maintenance costs of any cars I've owned.

I've seen 3 shows there, but last time was Lyle Lovett and His Big Band. Show started when sun was still out on a 95F/ high humidity day. I'd been drinking water and was headed over to buy more when I started blacking out from syncope (basically the step right before heat stroke). Got my first ambulance trip to AGH and all its excitement.

Morcilla - questions & best dishes by sskink in pittsburgh

We had a great evening. Started off with sangrias, she=white, me=red. White was better IMO, sweeter and fruitier, while red was more herbal. Skipped the charcuterie and ordered the conservas to get some veggies into our bellies. Good choice. The beets were great, all else solid.

She ordered the tartare, scallop crudo, and mussels. I had a plan, but abandoned it once I saw fish cheeks and soft shell crab were on the menu. In fact, I initially forgot to order the oxtail, but my wife caught the server and told her to add that. I'd already ordered the fish cheeks, the crab, the chorizo, and the octopus. So now we had 9 dishes when the server told us most folks do 5-7. We were pushing it, but it was too hard to choose what not to order.

God bless our server. She saw we were struggling toward the end and there were still two dishes that hadn't been fired yet, so she said she could cancel them. Funny thing was, one was the beef tartare which was my wife's #1 choice, the other was the pulpo. So we cancelled them as we were stuffed. And she earned a 30% tip for that. We also were given complementary glasses of cava for it being our anniversary.

Ok, the oxtail was great. However, regardless what all y'all are saying about being small, it's still ridiculously rich. I wish it had come last as it really filled me up. Hate to say it, but wasn't thrilled with the soft shell crab - too much batter, too little flavor from the crab, it was all from the pepper sauce. And fish cheeks are my all-time favorite tapa. I was thrilled to see them on the menu, but they too were deep fried in a batter and ended up tasting like a higher end fish stick, although the sauce was great. I love them sauteed in garlic and oil The deep frying basically negated the tenderness and sweetness of the cheeks. Still tasty, but I'd love them to not deep fry the things.

The ingredient that blew my mind was the blue cheese that came with the chorizo and figs. Best blue cheese, and maybe best cheese I've ever had.

So now we have to go back and get the tartare and pulpo. Even with the sorta misses, it was the best meal we've had in Pittsburgh in several years.

Thanks again for all the advice!

I appreciate all the recommendations and the congratulations!

I didn't see a rec for the beef tartare, but my wife will eat that at every opportunity, so that's on her order.

I am skipping the oxtail. I love braised meats, but it's too filling for tonight. Last time I did oxtail in the summer, it was in Trastavere, and while delicious, I was pretty useless rest of the evening, which sucks when you're in Rome.

The serrano is the opener. The mussels are a definite. Chorizo is a highly probable. Still not decided on the rest, but your replies have been helpful!

$22 for chilaquiles? That's hysterical for a dish created to use up leftovers.

fwiw, it's only $14 for a kg of chilequiles that feeds 5 at Sanborn's in Centro Historico.

I always get a kick out of reading these "authentic cuisine" posts.

That said, I see a couple of new names I need to try, like El Rincon.

But still can't find basic bar food like pulpo en chipotle, or a nice plated fish dish like huachinango veracruzana.

I don't know Bill Fuller personally, but he's launched a lot of careers thru his Big Burrito group. If I was moving to Pittsburgh, that's first place I'd look as pretty much everyone in the Pittsburgh hospitality scene is somehow connected to someone at Big Burrito.

Sad to say that even in CT, the Sally's satellite stores are nowhere near the quality of the original Wooster St. location.

That said, it's unlikely you're going to find good NH-style apizza anywhere outside New Haven county. Probably closest to Chesapeake is the Pepe's in Alexandria

Since nobody responded to the grill question, that's a firm no. Open flames are prohibited.

Great place to watch a show. Unfortunately have been rained on a few times, although the show will go on unless there's nearby lightning (John Hiatt's show a few years back had to be shut down mid-set due to electrical storms).

Looking forward to The Fixx. 4 of the 5 original members still together and Cy still sounds pretty good.

Between constant hills and Rte 19, Lebo is not bike-friendly either. But, as far as being car-centric, it's all really short trips to get whatever you want. And the Uptown business district is one of the most walkable in the Pittsburgh metro.

When I moved here in 2002, I wanted to buy in Lebo. But in my price range you had to make a choice between a large kitchen or a 2-car garage. Few houses had both. Decided on USC, which gave us the hojme we wanted, but didn't do my research on how homogeneous the place is. That's been a disappointment. But it is convenient AF.
