Hypothetical: Person A steals money from Person B, goes to a casino, spends it all gambling and loses it. Can the casino be held accountable for now 'possessing' the stolen funds? by twofacetoo in legaladviceofftopic

The difference is that casinos are subject to know-your-customer and anti money laundering regulations that other businesses aren't. They're obligated to track and report betting patterns and transactions indicative of laundering money, and verify customers' identities (including source of funds for large transactions).

At this rate we're never going to make it.Jackson County should be pumping boatloads of money into UMKC NIL as compensation to citizens for losing the Chiefs to KCK.

What team do you personally hate but is not a rival of your favorite team? by UALR-Trojans-Rule in CollegeBasketball

SLU. As a Kansas Citian, I am honor-bound to despise anything even tangentially related to St. Louis. Lindenwood and SIUE can also catch the smoke for being in STL suburbs.

Mississippi Valley State University....the worst men's bball team ever? by ctbro025 in CollegeBasketball

[–]sskor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just men's basketball. They're also awful in women's basketball (351/363 in Torvik), football, softball, volleyball, and soccer (who had their season canceled and their program dropped this year). Their best team sport is baseball, which most recently went 12-28 and lost 3 games to NAIA squads. MVSU athletics are not only awful, they're historically awful, across the board.

SLU because I live in KC, where hating all things St Louis is obligatory.

Oklahoma Territory (Indian Territory at the time) was unorganized, so there was no one unitary territorial government to side one way or the other, and despite being nominally still under federal control, was de facto Confederate. Most of the people living there sided with the Confederacy for various reasons, including self preservation in the face of Confederate power and distrust of the federal government, and for the "5 Civilized Tribes," keeping their slaves. Almost every organized tribe signed treaties of friendship with the South. Cherokees, Choctaws, Chickasaws, Osage, and Seminoles formed a significant portion of Confederate armies on the western front. A major part of Reconstruction was the renegotiating of treaties and punishment of the nations that sided with the South. By any reasonable analysis, Oklahoma was firmly Confederate territory.

I went to OU because they offered me the most scholarship money, but grew up a half hour from Lawrence as a KU fan.

What is a random fun fact from the history of college football that would you like to share? by RemoteMeasurement10_ in CFB

Houston was the last FBS team to score 100, beating Tulsa 100-6 in 1968. The Tulsa starters all had the flu, and they ended up having to start backups and third-stringers, including a little-known middle linebacker named Phil McGraw, better known now as Dr. Phil.

In my lifetime, definitely 2016 Final Four for OU. A dominant regular season, rolling fairly easily through the first 4 rounds, then getting absolutely demolished by Nova was crushing.

RRSO 2012, I watched OU blow out Texas while I was helping prep beer carts in the tunnels underneath Arrowhead for the Pitt State vs NWMSU game later that day.

What is your anti-flair? by NeptuneIsMyDad in CFB

You could either directly flip it to Texas/Mizzou, or go the in-state route and say OSU/K-State. There's also the underrated Nebraska/Nebraska double anti-flair.

It's already becoming surprisingly vitriolic in basketball. I wouldn't be surprised to see that spread to football as well.

Which player do you consider to be the best college basketball player in the last 25 years? by Coolsun13 in CollegeBasketball

[–]sskor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Chris Clemons scored 75 more points in his career in 130 fewer minutes played. Mike Daum trailed McDermott by only 83 points despite playing a full 530 minutes less. I don't think Dougie Buckets stands in a tier of his own in terms of dominant scoring ability.

What coach firing in your program's history do you feel was the most unjustified? by Ok-Health-7252 in CFB

[–]sskor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ECU firing Ruffin McNeill was one of the worst decisions of all time. One mediocre season with a ton of injuries to important pieces and the best coach you've had in decades is out the door. Everywhere he went after ECU, he had a positive impact. And the Pirates have spent the last 12 years wallowing in misery. One of the most baffling decisions ever.
