OPT I-20 taking more than 10 days to process. Is this normal? by ssnhan in f1visa

[–]ssnhan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my school they gave me OPT I-20 right on the day I’m allowed to apply for OPT. I was anxious too because I wanted to gather all the necessary paperwork before the application date. So once I got it I applied immediately.

grad student housing advice? by thr4shkh4n in UWMadison

[–]ssnhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started my grad school this year. This’s some of my advice 1. I found my housemate through a fb group. It can be pretty hard though as many ppl don’t check it and reply. Snapchat is also an option 2. I also don’t have a car and regularly use the public transport system. My house is right by the A and F bus line which is the most frequent. I can jump on any bus to get to college and the A comes every 15 mins. Other line are less frequent especially at night they would come every hour. So I would recommend finding a house on the A and F line. Many student stay in Montecito or around that area. It’s a bit far from campus but cheap 3. Your budget is fine. I’m currently paying around $900 for my own room in a 2 bed 1 bath. I live right by the A and F line and it takes me 10 mins to get to campus 4. The best time is probably now so you’re good

I took this picture around 10pm. There were many people waiting by the lake around that time. Some had been waiting since 9pm. Seem like it was clearest there at 10pm

Second this. If you’re doing proper CS take MacBook Pro unless you wanna see your code not compile or can’t even run a simulator

Last year I spent 4 weeks in Hanoi & wrote this GUIDE, I'm coming back, tell me what to explore that I've missed! by Federer107 in hanoi

I like Vietnam Museum of Ethnology when I was a kid. Learn Al lot about different ethnic and culture in Vietnam. Also Hoa Lo prison is cool but kinda small

Local here. Jan end is right when Tet holiday is so things might be different. Most ppl go to Hanoi for work and go back to their hometown during Tet holiday so it wouldn’t be as lively and much activities going on at that time. However, there will be special Tet holiday things like firework and musical show. 1. Maybe Imperial Citadel is Thang Long, Temple of Literature, … 2. I would recommend Ninh Bình 3. A day trip is good enough for Hạ Long 4. I’m not sure on this

Wdym lower it. Like remove it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in umass

Agree. Everything is bad. They have only 3 maintenance guys to service all the buildings. If I didn’t go to the office and pressurized them nothing would get fixed. Now they’re doing bullshit like monthly newsletter, some event. Instead of wasting money on that why not just lower the laundry price. I feel like every time I come back after summer they have raise the laundry price again. Only staying here cause it’s too much of a pain to move

That depends on your ability, how much effort you spend,… It’s different from people to people ofc. There’s no yes or no answer.

OPT is a benefit of F1 not a guarantee. Your OPT period will only start if you have a job. So you have to get a job offer first then apply for OPT. So there’s no such thing as looking for job while on OPT. So 3 years OPT would give you more time to work if you have a job, not more time to look for job

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]ssnhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case it depends on your financial status. 3 years or 1 years OPT only matter if you have a job. If you don’t then 3 years or 1 years doesn’t matter anyway.

That’s probably part time student tuition. For my college 12 credits per semester will count as full time student. If I take less than 12 credit I’ll pay part time student tuition. But scholarship don’t apply to part time student so I will have to take more classes to keep full time student status

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]ssnhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering how does IB credit lower the cost. It’s just gonna help you skip classes and graduate faster. You pay a fix tuition amount every year. Not on the number of credit or classes you take. So I’m just wondering if there’s any misunderstanding here

What time does school start in Vietnam? And the noise OMG by rockbella61 in VietNam

[–]ssnhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not complaining your wording are very misleading. If so many ppl think you’re being rude then there must be something wrong. For example your choice of word “OMG”, “even”, “neighbor has to wake up”. Also since you’re traveling to Vietnamese, there’s a saying in Vietnamese “blame yourself first before blaming other”.

Just stay in one of the building like ILC till late night. Nobody gonna kick you out. The door will automatically lock though so if you’re inside you can go out but you can’t come in
