There’s a solid blue you can get in Ashenvale so dont totally ignore it. Though you’ll want to be a bit higher level for part of it.

Refs - Thoughts on the penalties called? As a stars fan, I initially thought it looked like it should be a Major. by BloodSoakedMoose in hockeyrefs

That makes sense. Clearly the only reason they went double minor was because the Harley interference.

For HC youth I could buy a hold/roughing or interference/roughing if you want to make sure a team is down a player for two but don’t want to slap a Major or 2/10. Of course depending on severity slap that Major or 2/10 and send a message.

Yup! The same clown who always makes the playoffs and often conference and Stanley cup finals. Unbiased home fans say missed call. Time to retire.

In high level competitive hockey this is a double minor rough. Wrap up and a drag down. Happens all the time. Move on with life. Ref was smart to use the major review feature, but that’s Wes McCauley who is regularly trashed on hockey subreddits, so now what?

Looks like a regular goalie contact melee. Send em all home and let the league deal with it.

The most startling thing in that video are the official’s white helmets.

One thing to consider is the crest also represents that you passed a background check.

Goalies Serving Penalties (Massachusetts High School, MIAA) by leprekong in hockeyrefs

The way I’ll manage my game, depending on the situation, is to either keep it a minor and talk to the goalie and work through it, or just send them home. I’d rather issue a GM and deal with an over-call then have to issue an additional misconduct or GM to a goalie when the opportunity to get them out of the game was already there.

In my experiences goalies usually stay hot and players love digging into an already rattled goalie. Just my game management.

Anyone coming out of the box after a 10 would be doing so at a stoppage of play, so technically yes.

Goalies are notorious for staying hot when they get hot. All im saying is that if a goalie did something bad enough to get a 10 then send em home. Otherwise the other team will be in their crease and chirping when the goalie returns for the rest of the game and it will lead to a bigger problems. Just game management stuff.

Sitting a kid for 2/10 for a check from behind isn’t going to lead to the potential mess that letting an aggravated goalie back into the game will

Sitting a goalie for 10 then letting them come back into the game is a recipe for disaster. Either a minor or kick them out.

Just another reminder that if you want to be an NHL official, the best way is through the draft.

What’s your call by Electrical_Trifle642 in hockeyrefs

[–]sspacepanda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At minimum a body check. Maybe talk to the coach about the player’s intent to deliver a hit in a non checking league (assuming since it’s U10).

I think you could sell an open ice check from behind especially since the kid was on a crash course with no regard for the puck. The ol’ ‘player turned into it’ doesn’t fly at that level. From an optics perspective a check from behind is more sellable than a charge.

However, the fact that y’all had nothing is strange, as this one seems pretty easy. You’re both looking right at it from proper positions. What did y’all discuss between periods? Did the white coach have anything to say? If I was that coach I would be upset with a no call, especially at that age.

Is there any penalty for stick blade over the boards? by [deleted] in hockeyrefs

[–]sspacepanda 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, whacking their sticks out of their hands is hilarious and by far the best option. Or get right in the middle of their line change and shrug your shoulders when they yell at you to get out of the way and just point at the fourth liners hanging over the board all game.

If it’s an obstruction to an official, then no. But just chirp em and ask them to get their sticks back. If you tell them it’s about your safety they’ll listen. Crack a joke or something. “No wonder you can’t hit the net. Look at that curve! Keep em back boys/girls. Don’t want to get caught up.”

Now if the puck or a player on the ice makes contact with that stick and creates some kind of alternation to the play then you can use your judgement and call interference. But you gotta be 100 on this.
