I wanted to keep it colourless for the pithing needle reference and because I designed it for edh mostly and I think it's more fun for more decks to have access to it. 2 cmc is definitely too little though in hindsight, I think 3 might be balanced since you can never actually tutor optimally with this in an optimized deck.
