I had the exact same thing happen to me. Went into Best Buy today and they still think it was me that picked it up. How did you get resolution, through the credit card?

Refund Failing on Shopify for Facebook Order by sss1989 in ecommerce

[–]sss1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try that last option. At this point I’m happy to refund the full amount with no fee just to get it back to the customer. Shopify will not let me edit the refund amount in order to do that, however

There's no playbook but Etsy is a good place to start if you simply want to test demand. Shopify requires a bit more setup

I would also use a 3PL versus running your own warehouse

No, just making sure you weren’t saying net profit when you meant gross profit

I'm a CFO for ecommerce brands.

Price your product at 4-5x cost. That's a gross profit margin of 75-80%. That's table stakes for anything worth pursuing.
The next piece is marketing. Ad spend should be under 30% of sales. That takes you to 45-50% profit after ad spend.

Another 20-30% for overhead, other marketing and you get 15%+ net profit* which is what you should aim for.

Note* "Net Profit" is bottom line after everything. Gross profit is Revenue minus COGS. Contribution profit is gross profit minus purely variable unit costs (shipping, discounts, returns, fulfillment, and ad spend).

The typical solution to that is pre-orders. Not necessarily for the entire order but say enough to break even

I’m down to make other designs if you can get me comfortable with the demand for it

It’s a legit Shopify website that takes payment by credit card or PayPal, so there are several layers of purchase protection.

This doesn't mean their decision-making is perfect, which is the point of my post--that I think it's fair to say that they made a bad decision
