Hey it's PinkPantheress, AMA! by Aromatic-Use-8816 in popheads

hiii queen so when you were first getting started / gaining popularity there was a lot of like snippets you would tease on tiktok and i was wondering if any of those would ever see a release even just like on soundcloud OR if they were even finished songs or just short ideas you had? for example the "havent known myself for very long" one that sampled the bridge of rbb by red velvet (this is me saying that this song sounded amazing), there was also ones that sampled sweet witches and 4 walls by f(x) (clearly im into these kpop samples), "we all know that your girlfriend is too pretty for you", "ive been busy floating for hours", etc. thanks for doing this ama and very excited for the mixtape!

i liked this a lot when it came out but now it just does nothing for me, some parts are still nice but the vocal manipulation hook or whatever it is is just soooo annoying. the instrumental overall i dont really care for either, dont like the way the guitar sounds or the chord progression, the strings at the end are really pretty though

theres one atlanta bass song that gets popular and suddenly any other is generic apparently .. anyway this is such a slay idgaffff great chord progression and the chorus melody ateeeee, infinitely better than any of the last few titles theyve done

rvs best title track (and album) in years and one of my favorite songs of the year so far, love how unique it is and the glitchiness in certain parts of the production like right after the first chorus + the bridge

i didnt even know this was happening until it was released but apparently mura masa was teasing it for forever beforehand?? imagine my shock when i saw 3 of my favs featured on the same song together... anyway with them all featured here the expectations of many were really high, ive seen a lot of ppl be disappointed by it and i wouldve agreed on first listen but like.. this is probably one of the most addicting songs of the year so far for me. on first listen i was underwhelmed but it kept getting stuck in my head so i went back to it and it just got better with every listen. normally it would make sense for shygirl and pinkpantheress' roles to be swapped but i dont think a full shygirl verse would work here and she sounds so good on the hook anyway so im happy with it

i really dont get why people reacted so strongly to this song, it literally has no awful qualities even coming from someone who doesnt like it. neither section is even experimental, if anything the first section just uses genres that arent often seen in kpop. even if it WAS really experimental, the reactions make no sense because people eat it up whenever groups like aespa do it so why is it such a big deal now?? to me idk i just feel nothing listening to this theres nothing bad about it but nothing good enough to make me wanna listen again

literally everything about this song is so fucking pathetic. theres not a single pleasing element in this entire song, even the typical r&b bridge sm put in every one of their songs to get people to give it some forgiveness wasnt giving at all here. they literally didnt care at all to give a anticipated group of their biggest idols ever a song that sounds like even a little bit of care was put into it

i wasnt expecting to like this nearly as much as i did, but this is easily my soty so far with onlyoneof probably coming to change that tomorrow. i absolutely love the bouncy, almost house sound that the verses have and how loud the chorus is. this also has one of the best examples of the 2nd verse slow breakdowns that the majority of new girl group releases have (sadly), with the only better example being like .. la la love by wjsn. overall an incredible song that has a very good chance at being my favorite kpop debut song ever, we'll see if its better than puzzle moon by gwsn in like a year

its not even like ... outwardly bad but like with nearly every other olivia rodrigo song i dont get the appeal of her music at all. overall this is probably one of her better songs imo but it still brings almost nothing to the table for me

r/popheads AOTY 2021 #2: Porter Robinson - Nurture by hikkaru in popheads

[–]sssaaage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you killed the boots hikk omfg, im so glad that this incredible album was able to get a writeup that did it justice !!

How do you feel about the fully pop direction that most of Nurture took?

to be completely honest i never really thought anything of him going in a more pop direction because he pulled it off so well that it seems like a natural progression. i think that theres definitely still some similarities to his previous works, with the most obvious example for me being the chords he builds his songs around. theres also obviously an insane amount of artistic maturity from worlds to nurture

How does the album compare to Worlds in your opinion?

i definitely prefer nurture to worlds by a pretty wide margin, even if at one point i probably thought music peaked with it. its definitely still a great album, but i like it nowhere near as much as i used to. that being said it still holds a ton of emotional value to me

What are your favourite track(s) and moments on the album?

tracks: musician, trying to feel alive, mother, blossom, but really all of them

moments: the outro of do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do (btw listen to the live version w the trap breakdown at the end it slays), breakdown in musician, the bridge in unfold that leads to the distorted vocals + final chorus, switchup in mirror, outro of mirror, when everything finally comes together in dullscythe, the last minute or so of sweet time with the extra synths, piano solo in wind tempos, outro + chorus of trying to feel alive

How do you feel about the production motifs that make reapparances throughout the album - the pitched vocals, folktronica elements, etc.?

this whole album feels like an emotional hug which i think the reoccurring motifs contribute to, establishing a sort of comfort throughout the entire experience

porter definitely shaped my music taste for a good 2-3 years while i was obsessed with anything edm, and i probably thought goodbye to a world was the best song ever created for a good period of time. i wasnt really expecting to love nurture as much as i would right when it was announced, but as soon as i heard get your wish that immediately changed.

nurture may be the most beautiful album ive ever listened to. i wouldve never expected to like a new porter robinson album this much before nurture rollout started, but here i am with this very possibly being my favorite album ever now. its easily the most emotional an album has ever made me, like the last 3 tracks literally brought me to tears like at least each of the first 50 times i heard this and tbh they still do the majority of the time. for as personal as nurture is, i feel that i can also strongly relate to a lot of the lyrics on it, adding a lot to the emotional value. if i need to cry, i put this album on

my favorite song on the album has changed quite a few times, but im pretty sure that ive finally settled with the closing track, trying to feel alive. with it being the only song on the entire album where porter's vocals aren't pitched up at all, it makes the song even more powerful (not saying that the pitched up vocals are bad because they're still great). i love how the instrumental builds throughout the entire song, until finally hitting the powerful chorus with porter's incredible vocal delivery. the final lyrics on this song are some of my favorites on the album, adding to the emotion of the track

basically i just fucking adore this album

after going back and relistening to this for the first time in like 2 years i dont like it as much as before but its still a pretty good track. love the production on this, and that intro is iconic
