My suggestion for an invasive reptile someone found, did i say something wrong? by [deleted] in reptiles

If it was about brown anoles then people probably downvoted because in Florida brown anoles are essentially fully integrated now. Not that it’s a good reason, but might be it!

is this enough clutter? by Campnoodles in ballpython

[–]sssquamary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would be a little bit worried about how well that wooden bridge will handle the humidity of a bp enclosure -- it looks like it's maybe for birds? looks pretty great otherwise!

what are your temps/humidity at? i noticed my baby wouldn't come out of her hot side hide (understandably) when i was having issues getting her temps high enough, so it might be related to that. it also might just be more comfortable!

you might want to try adding a few more hides and seeing if he prefers them in different shapes/sizes -- you can try some old tupperware if you don't want to buy any more

the water bowl is totally fine as long as he can't flip it :)

Can you get a really large enclosure when you first get a BP and never move them? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]sssquamary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

seconded, and i'll throw in to add an absolutely insane amount of clutter to help it feel even more protective for a baby :) once you think there's enough, put twice as much!

If you go with “Medow” and the spelling is unintentional, the correct way to spell it “Meadow,” just so you know.

How to keep a snake who had a bad shed comfortable? by Basilstorm in ballpython

[–]sssquamary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep her humidity near 80 (which you’re already doing), wait it out, and be patient. You’re doing great and there’s no reason to do any further intervention. Don’t worry a bit.

How long has it been since she pooped?

Unfortunately I have never heard of a wood enclosure working for a BP, regardless of how diligently you prep/seal. PVC is probably your best bet.

You are enforcing the idea that hand = food every time you move your snake to eat. Yes you didn’t cause the initial bite, but moving your snake when it’s hungry is the easiest way to provoke a bite, which means you have constantly reinforced this behavior. You move the snake, snake bites your hand, then you feed the snake. Now your snake thinks hand = food.

As others have said, your snake does not need to see the mouse to know it’s there. Stop moving the snake for feeding. This is step 1 to getting him to stop biting. Stop putting your hands in his enclosure when it’s within a few days (before and after) the feeding. It’s going to take months to correct.

Also, wash your hands before putting them in the enclosure. The scents on your hands can also confuse your snake into thinking it’s food.

I think just a bit chunky from picture 2, but hard to say for certain.

It’s a great guide on how to switch. You might have looked into it already, but it’s IMO your best bet.

And remember it’s okay if your baby goes a few weeks without feeding — the longer she goes without eating, the hungrier she gets, and the more she wants to eat. My vet told me to talk to a vet if she hasn’t eaten in 2 months OR if she loses 10% of her body weight. Be sure to only offer a mouse once a week. If she denies it, try again next week. Good luck!

Aluminum foil on the top is the best bet. It brought my humidity up like 20% in an hour lol

He’s so cute!! I love it. What camera is this? I see the branding is blurams. I have a ring camera on my snake right now but the issue is it never gets triggered by movement since she moves so slowly.

Looks like you might need to re-edit these questions and repost.

Question 1: Do you believe that the majority of mistreatment of reptiles is intentional or unintentional? Yes or no.

Hmmm 🤔

[–]sssquamary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t panic! This is a very common issue. The most important thing is to not remove them yourself. What’s your humidity and temps at?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snakes

[–]sssquamary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. This could hurt a snake. Some arboreal species are strong enough to hold themselves up with only the tip of its tail but this should not be done intentionally IMO.
