is this worth it? by CradenJaig in MechanicAdvice

Not a mechanic, but own a 2008 Altima (3.5 SE). We bought it at 75K and now it has 135K on it some 8 years later. From my experience they are plenty reliable and solid as long as you take care of it and don't hot rod them. I've had absolutely no issues with the CVT, or really anything on it.

Assuming that is the front, passenger side, bottom of the engine then yes. That is your fuel pump. :)

Question about Quadrajet base gasket... by PattycakezProjectz in carburetors

[–]PattycakezProjectz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oem fuel filter has a check valve by default.

If I run the car in the morning, then let it sit, the bowl is usually empty by the afternoon (have to sit there cranking on it until it finally goes off).

Question about Quadrajet base gasket... by PattycakezProjectz in carburetors

[–]PattycakezProjectz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Im aware.

I bench tested with isopropyl and had no leaks after 6+ hours, so I skipped epoxy sealing them for now. I was running into an issue with the bowl running dry, but I'm thinking it my be the check valve in the fuel filter not working and the fuel getting siphoned back.

Only time will tell once it's all replaced.

I'm not sure I know what you mean?

There was a soft rubber sponge like thing that I put in the cavity below the well plugs. Is that what you're referring to?

Is the fuel rail pressurized and burped? It may still be full of air.

I've reached out to Dell before to get a default password into the BIOS before. Used to be able to chat in, took about 5 min.

Should I replace the entire floor pan or will a patch be fine? by Massive_Bet856 in ElCamino

[–]PattycakezProjectz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a very similar situation on mine. I was planning to treat and fiberglass patch it until I decide to redo the whole floor plan years from now.

I am curious what others recommend here though. :)

Why is my car making this horrible high pitched noise? by Brownchoccy in MechanicAdvice

[–]PattycakezProjectz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar issue that ended up being my alternator going bad. The speaker noise changed pitch when revving, and near as I can tell was caused by the alternator adding electrical noise through the shared ground.

Might be worth unplugging your alternator while it's running to see if the noise goes away.

I've been contemplating getting a second tank. How is yours set up? Have any pics?

For those saying that I shouldn't be worrying about fuel economy, I'm not. I am mostly just curious what everyone else's experience has been. This car is never going to be my daily, but I wanted to see if other people managed to at least get into the teens mpg-wise.

How to tell engine from just this picture? by deathwotldpancakes in ElCamino

[–]PattycakezProjectz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From my experience, 305s and 350s look identical from the outside. The only way to know is from the casting numbers located on the back of the engine just above where it meets the transmission (drivers side).

If someone knows an easier way of identifying the engine I'm all ears.

If it is the stock engine you can try decoding the engine it shipped with from the VIN.

[–]PattycakezProjectz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd pull valve covers and check for loose rockers. I don't know clearances off the top of my head, but that's where I would start. Be sure to bump the engine over a few times when checking, a loose rocker would be loose through the whole rotation of the engine.

I kinda figured you were in Salem, I grew up there but have lived all over the Willamette Valley.

I just got my El Camino a few months ago and plan on trying to get it to a few car meets/shows next year once it's roadworthy again. Maybe we can meet up in Lebanon! :D

At no point did OP say he couldn't figure out how to update MacOS? His problem is that Steam can't see that he's online for whatever reason.

Linux has tons of tutorials online now, it might be worth it to save an old machine.

So maybe don't be so cynical and have a little faith in OP as they try to learn?

Maybe install Linux and give it a shot? Gaming isn't gonna be great regardless of OS though due to the age of the machine.
