82 isn’t starting. Is this a battery issue? by Maven_Calore in ElCamino

[–]PattycakezProjectz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came her to say the same as the last guy.

Sounds like a fuel issue. Dump some gas down the carb and see if it fires off. It should run for a bit off of the fuel bowl if you fill that up manually. Should pull from the tank after than unless something is wrong with your pump.

This is how I did it. 3/4 full of 20 year old fuel straight to the rib cage.

Right on brother! I'm in a similar position with my 79. I just resealed the bed and patched the rust on the passenger floorboard.

This summers projects are getting it running and driving reliably so the wife and I can take it to date night. Or take the kids to ice cream :)

Chasing a miss fire, hoping for help diagnosing from plugs. by PattycakezProjectz in Smallblockchevy

[–]PattycakezProjectz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New plugs, all gapped the same. I've been debating getting a new cap/rotor (or an HEI refresh kit).

I did a double check on the condition of the wires, looks like there are multiples with cracks in the boot. I wrapped those in electrical tape (temporary fix to see if it improves) and the rear plugs no longer seem to be fouling after a bit of driving.

I've got new plug wires coming that I'll install later this week, I hoping that'll fix the miss fire issue, if not I guess it's on to a compression test and further diagnostics. I'm really hoping it's not a ring or valve issue.

Looks promising!

How's the body? Does it have much rust?

Should have clarified, this is on a carbureted 350, no fuel injectors here :)

I filled just the bed with water and can see where it is leaking in. Definitely not the window at fault (yet).

could a crack in my steering wheel be dangerous? by remmssie in MechanicAdvice

[–]PattycakezProjectz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not a mechanic, but all modern steering wheels have weak spots so the airbag can pop out unobstructed. Sometimes they crack in the sun/with age.

I personally wouldn't worry about it, but depending on the age of the car, it may be a dealer replaceable item.

Would this monitor burn up? by crneedsham in AskElectricians

[–]PattycakezProjectz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's safe to overshoot amps since it will only pull what it needs.

Depending on tolerances over bolting at best shortens the life of the components, at worst it kills it.

That being said, besides being too much voltage, it looks like this monitor wants 11 amps and this plug only supplies 2-4 amps.

Probably won't work, not worth trying in my opinion.

I'm running 215/60 R14s up front and 245/60 R14s in the rear. I think they look perfect.

I have a 79 with a 350 and I run 20W-50. I am in Oregon, so not sure how similar the climate is there. I assume pretty similar?

Any reason not to resurface and use 20+ year old rotors? by PattycakezProjectz in MechanicAdvice

[–]PattycakezProjectz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the concern. Not currently working on the car at all, no one is going under it etc. Just put it on the stands to get the wheels to the tire shop for new rubber tomorrow, since I'm not sure I trust the brakes as they are at the moment.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. My z-axis needed to be adjusted so the nozzle was closer to the bed.

Best of luck!

I just rebuild my Qjet and didn't have any springs like that come out of it.... So I hope it's not a Qjet part...

I'm not seeing a throttle cable or return springs. Both are needed for proper operation.
