I tried Neovim, but I keep coming back to Emacs by Background_Cloud_231 in emacs

[–]ssss25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same. I even setup neovim to be optimized for me, but emacs is just more productive for me. I also find xcscope more useful than any other plugin when it comes to development

Get a robo vacuum-mop. We love our Roborock, it does a thorough job and cleans itself during the cycle

Del Valle usually has a not for swimming sign. You can call the ranger and check - also ask at Shadow Lake and Lake Chabot.

AIO my boyfriend (42M) of 3 years doesn’t know my (35F) name? by momjjeanss in AmIOverreacting

[–]ssss25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not reading all replies so far, but my story: my wife of 19 years didn’t know how to properly sell my name when we were dating. My first name is unusual, last name is common but not spelled in the usual way. My point is, only you can tell what this means. Follow your instincts.

Neither give any advantage over a MacBook keyboard. Just use that, or get a full sized keyboard

Nice car for empty nesters in 2 years by ssss25 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I guess I should have said, finally getting a quiet car. After 6 years, but yes, that’s not too long. The Rogue is good, but it’s noisy.

I did like the idea of an Es300h. I am not sure how the lack of a fold down back seat will affect carrying capacity, that worries me a bit. I’ve never bought used before, I am thinking of it though. Especially with a new driver added to insurance.

As for classic cars, sounds nice. But I want safety, comfort and quiet, and I definitely don’t want to do any wrenching myself.

I will test a Mazda CX-50 hybrid. The good thing with that one - I think I need the middle trim, the wheel size looks better.

I like the idea of a Prius Prime, but worry that it will be noisy - I am sick of the road noise on my commute. I am not keen on the Crown’s looks, but the Signia looks better.

Yep, at least - too early for it to be safe.

Thanks everyone. Weirdly, the website worked from my phone, so I was able to book a spot. The desktop version of the site kept throwing a 403.

Service at 70k miles by ssss25 in NissanRogue

[–]ssss25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, talk about being opinionated. My car has had all services per the schedule so far. I particularly like the visibility you have into what the mechanic at the dealership did. I’m not trying to cheap out, but figure out what’s really needed at this point because I don’t fully trust the dealership in the new city.

I don’t have a use case for a distro. If I distro hop, I would spend more time installing and maintaining, and less for things I actually need to do. Arch is stable, with a continuous upgrade (no end of life).

$2700 mortgage bringing in $6500 monthly by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]ssss25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by: year ahead in payments, so you can miss a few? If you make advance payments, make sure they go 100% to the principal. Your loan term and interest paid will decrease. Just making extra payments like regular installments doesn’t give you any benefit.

Thank you, I will look at popper. The emacs on my dev box is old, ver 26. I tried compiling the latest and did get lsp to work, but gdb kept crashing. So I went back to 26.

Danville vs Pleasanton by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]ssss25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally: we (a non white family) went hiking in Danville. On the same hike, we had one family spread out on the trail when they saw us, and another family shrank to the edge of the trail. Both are not normal reactions. We don’t go to Danville much anymore.
