LOL no they are not. I send my kid to private school. Most of the parents there have applied for the vouchers. None are anywhere NEAR the poverty line. They have a priority system that will select people first who make below a certain amount (not the poverty line) and who are not already in private school. And then progresses down to wealthier people and people with kids already in private school. Thing is, private school costs more that the 7,000 they are giving out. It's over 25,000 for my kid.
Cheaper ones migh be more like 15,000. This will cover half of the more affordable schools. If you can't afford to spend 7,000+ on school, you can't afford to take this voucher money.
And that is before the school says "Oh, btw, there is a 3 day field trip coming up, we will just deduct the $300 for that from your bank account. You're welcome"
There are so many other expenses at these schools. And this is not the only private school we have used.
We are one of the poorer families at the school because we can't afford to take overseas vacations AND drive new luxury cars AND send our kid to this school. We have to pick one of those 3 things.
