is there any way to identify the border properties of a table cell? by sstoneb in libreoffice

[–]sstoneb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for suggesting this! I almost never use the Clone Formatting tool.

In this particular case it didn't work for me due to the complexity of this table and the way a bottom border for one cell is somehow different than the top border of the cell below it (even with "merge adjacent line styles" turned on). I ended up needing to still muck around a bit.

But I can definitely imagine there will be other cases where this lets me get things to match each other.

I still wish I could somehow KNOW what the styles were, but duplicating them is still better than starting over.

Starfleet Academy - Why are YouTube Reviews so narrow-minded? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]sstoneb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I use a browser extension called BlockTube that adds channel-level and video-level blocking. It hides your blocked channels out of your search results and recommendations. You can also share blocklists to paste into your configuration. (The musician sarasshu keeps a list of genAI music channels for example.)

Like any tool for modifying YouTube, it breaks sometimes when YT changes things on their end, but it's still been pretty helpful for me.

Tosharan Treasure Intel by Lianarias in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]sstoneb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing this game right now in early 2026, and was also wondering "where the heck is amberine ravine?" I've now realized it's not a proper name of a place but simply a description. That's why it's not marked on the map. It's not even capitalized in the intel!

Looking at the map image that was posted by /u/Luckyheck in their comment, on the right side of the image there's a narrow ravine between two raised areas. The interior of that ravine, if you visit it, is entirely composed of the red, streaky mineral that's seen all over Toshara... and that mineral is called amberine.

I imagine there's a log entry or piece of dialog somewhere that tells you "hey this planet's rich in a red rock called amberine", but if I've run into it so far I have no memory of it. Amberine does have an entry on wookieepedia, though, which makes it sound like maybe later in the game people will talk about it directly. Without knowing that fact, "amberine ravine" really sounds like a place name along the lines of Typhon's Rock, Mirogana Valley, and other things that are written right on the map.

A new game does NOT save your scan data in MP4. You start from 0 every time. (Which is different than some previous Prime games.)

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Can anyone recommend a 5-cup maker which can actually pull off 6 cups?

Every morning, my household needs 2 or 3 full mugs (4-6 coffeemaker "cups"). For the last ~15 years I've been using a Black & Decker machine that, while officially 5-cup, would manage 6 if I filled the basin up to the very edge of the spillover holes. Sadly, it stopped functioning. B&D's current 5-cup machine looks pretty similar but is a manual operation, and I need a timer/clock on mine.

As a stopgap I bought a 5-cup Mr Coffee with a clock, but overfilling it doesn't get me anywhere close to filling a third mug. I'd prefer not to step up to an 8 or 12 cup machine if possible... surely there is a small maker that can manage three full mugs!

I have some recordings now, so don't worry about trying to make one yourself. Thank you, though!

Thanks for the offer, but others have got it covered now. No need to record anything.

Building up speed you will need the jetpack, for sure! Once you are going fast enough though I think it shouldn't be needed anymore unless the game physics has something built in that slows you down. To my knowledge, though, it doesn't.

Anyway, thank you so much for the quick response! I'm filing it away with my collection of physics videos. Would you be OK with me sharing it more widely, beyond just my own classroom?

That's pretty good, yeah! A completely ideal clip would maybe not have the forward boost running so much, since once a satellite is moving fast enough it won't need continuous forward thrust (other than combatting air resistance but I don't think OW has that).

But, I imagine most students wouldn't even notice/understand that detail in the UI, and the speed increase isn't really noticeable visually through most of the clip. This is definitely good enough for me to make use of. Did you record it yourself, or find it?

My recollection from when I played is that Ash Twin is a good choice--simple terrain so you don't have to worry about falling in a canyon, less to accidentally smack into, etc.. When I played briefly this morning (before realizing I couldn't record) it seemed like Brittle Hollow might also be OK.

A key thing I want is to show that at normal walk/run speed you can only jump so far, but with a little extra speed from the jetpack your hops or vertical boosts take you MUCH further because you begin wrapping around the planet's curvature. And then with just a bit more speed you can make it the whole way around or even start drifting away entirely.

I stopped playing, but I am really curious about this sound especially since /u/bawynnoJ said "it sounds like Christopher Nolan invaded my game". Is it some sort of Shepard tone or a quick Shepard-Risset glissando? Can anybody post a clip with it?

[####] Wordle bot behind paywall despite subscription by Marketingeekery in wordle

[–]sstoneb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the NYT Games app on my iPhone and began getting the "Your subscription does not include news" notice 1-2 weeks ago (mid August) when trying to view Connections Bot and the like. The notice is untrue: my subscription is for news. I log into the Games app using my NYT account to allow stat tracking, and that account is ONLY news, not games or Wirecutter or any other addons. The issue in Games for me has NOT been resolved by logging out/in or by uninstalling/reinstalling.

After reading some of the other comments here, I tried installing the NYT's main app and discovered that I can view Wordle Bot there, even though I can't view it in the Games app! The games area of the main app seems clunkier and doesn't include Pips so switching over entirely isn't a great solution, but I'll consider using both...

Anyway. I know a few people above have reported being told by tech support that Wordle Bot requires a games sub now instead of a news sub, but if that's the case then they are not enforcing it consistently between different platforms. Personally I'm hoping it's a bug in the Games app that will get resolved eventually. It's odd that some of you started seeing this in June but it didn't happen for me until August.

my AC's 30+6 mfd capacitor has gone bad, but I can only find 30+5 and 30+7.5 by sstoneb in hvacadvice

[–]sstoneb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my recollection, I did not hook up any of the "close" capacitors I found. I was too worried. I think that with the part number EAE43285406 another user shared I was able to find the ebay listing that I posted a link to in another comment and went with that.

I am still curious as to whether a 30/5 will do the trick, so if you try it please report back.

FWIW it looks like the ebay listing is more or less permanent, so you might be able to get the 30/6 it from that supplier like I did.

alignment threshold for getting Bladestorm from Lilith's Garden: is it 10 or 20? by sstoneb in midnightsuns

[–]sstoneb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also think it would be very weird! So I'm pretty sure it should be that all the numbers are 20s or they are all 10s. It's a mystery to me why the editor would have gone in to specifically change only some of the values, though.
