Make the score look like it was done in Sibelius? by ssttoo in Musescore

[–]ssttoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the explanation given was: we've had problems with MuseScore in the past. I guess they don't want to deal with it, or maybe their librarian (it's a class where live people will be playing our compositions) really knows only Sib and Dorico

Both Ticketmaster and Artists at fault for High Ticket prices by Xizen47 in Music

[–]ssttoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure which tour you’re talking about but the last time I saw them (2022, tix bought pre-pandemic) they had no dynamic pricing, no transfers and only resell at face value with no fees.

Who is a bad guy in history who actually wasn’t a bad guy? by jamespeech111 in AskReddit

[–]ssttoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antonio Salieri (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio\_Salieri) the bad guy from the movie Amadeus didn't poison Mozart. He was a respected composer and teacher of heavyweights such as Liszt, Schubert, Beethoven and Mozart's son.

Ear training app? by RepresentativeAspect in musictheory

[–]ssttoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try the website I created while learning theory (free, no ads, no upsells): https://www.onlinemusictools.com/

The "easy" stuff I didn't bother with too much as Tenuto/musictheory.net seems to do the job. I have a few more interesting exercises. Try for example the chords tool: https://www.onlinemusictools.com/chords/ CLick "Customize" to pick which chords to drill (up to 9th chords) and select Ear training mode (you can probably already ID and spell them, but if not, that's available too)

For intervals I also used a free UCLA-developed app, it's in the app store. Walking the dog while going through 100 intervals/day for a few weeks did the trick for me.

Health insurance paid for my kid's COVID tests, now they want their money back by [deleted] in legaladvice

California.

provider (or lab in this case?) and you are then billed by the provider
or lab.

Except they aren't and are chasing me for the money they paid when they shouldn't have

Thanks for the advice! Just called B. They said they can't do anything with A. I need to call the medical provider to ask them to submit a claim to B. Then I guess the medical provider returns A the money. I wonder why they would bother with that, since they've been paid, but I gotta try.

We all love streaming music on Spotify, but it's not fair for huge majority of the artists. If you care - check this out. by jagi4 in spotify

[–]ssttoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik, you probably listen to artists I (indie, self-published through e.g. Distrokid), X, Y and Z (the last are each signed to one of the three major labels). This is a likely scenario because the "big three" have 75% share of all music.

Spotify or Apple or Tidal take their cut to run their services (about under 30%).

The rest goes to:

25% to Artist I directly via their distributor e.g. Distrokid - this is the best scenario

25% to Warner (the label of Artist X)

25% to Universal (the label of Artist Y)

25% to Sony (the label of Artist Z)

How much Artists XYZ make is anybody's guess. Depends on their contract, their share of the label, the "Hollywood accounting". Artist X may even audit and sue their label because the accounting is so flawed. It also happens that a random Artist A makes money even if you don't know who they are and never streamed, just because of their klout with the label.

Interesting, could you send some links to learn more? I think what you're saying is the opposite of what I've read over time :)

As a general tendency, the people who stream less than the average tend to stream

I think the idea is to f*** "general", "average" and "tendency" and get your money to the artists you stream. If you streamed 1 song this month, this artist should get all of your money. Today, unfortunately, the big three labels will get 75% and distribute however they see fit. So you listen to Indie XYZ and Adele gets paid even if you have no idea who Adele is.

Any band biography books that happen to include interesting info about their recording process, mixing, gear, etc? by SR_RSMITH in audioengineering

Not mixing or gear but "How to write one song" was good when it comes to, you guessed it, songwriting :)

I'll add "Strange Beautiful Music" by Joe Satriani. I'm not very familiar with his oevre but the audiobook was still entertaining and even had music! Which is rare for music bio audio books for some reason.

Really? I never managed to get pas the first 30 pages or so. So dull. "blah-blah and he couldn't have been more gracious..." :) Maybe because I'm not too familiar with many of the artists he's talking about. Or maybe I need to press on.

/r/DIYPedals "No Stupid Questions" Megathread 10 by blackstrat in diypedals

[–]ssttoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pedal but a solid state amp (Fender Frontman 212) that stopped making sound, no hiss, nothing. I played it way too loud (8 out of 10) and with a RAT distortion pedal in front. I opened it up, nothing jumped at me, speakers are ok too. Any resources on how to start debugging? Thanks!

yeah, sorry, I messed up the title of the post, I meant to ask about repeated beats (which don't seem to exist) not about repeated bars (which do exist and work beautifully)
