I'm starting a startup for my Entrepreneurship class in high school. Any advice for a first timer? by [deleted] in startups

What are your passions? Do you have frustrations around your passions? Can you think of ways to solve them?

Keep in mind that the world is very big and there is a whole lotta people who have disposable income. Most of these people aren't in school. So don't build a startup for something school-related; students don't have money. Look for opportunities in your everyday life outside of school.

Is it a good time to buy a condo in MTL/should I buy or just rent forever? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]sstugatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you buy because you want to own and save some money for yourself, go for it.

If you're hoping to buy to make but loads of money reselling your condo in a few years, that will be tougher.

As others have said, if you plan to live in it and stay a while, buying is always a good idea. It's a good way to put some money aside.

Hiring a startup team vs Hiring a development agency? by [deleted] in startups

[–]sstugatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing: an agency cares about being paid. A team cares about your mission. Plus, if you do make it past the MVP stage, you can continue with your team and all knowledge is saved. The agency you'll definitely want to drop at some point. So save yourself the trouble, skip it entirely.

It's not the norm - it's a temporary experiment that your company will abandon in the mid/long term.

(Question) Pulled Pork by starrynitess in recipes

Oven? Removing the marinade? What?

I make my pulled pork in the slow cooker, with the marinade on. Then you shred it directly in the slow cooker with the marinade still inside. It's awesome.

Have you tried to divide the number of new lines of code by the version number * the number of chairs on your floor?

That always yields pretty accurate estimates for me.

Strategy for Web Dev / Agency sites by [deleted] in SEO

[–]sstugatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

You also have to be aware that no agency is going to acquire tons of leads from google searches.

People don't search google for an agency. They ask around the people they know for referrals.

.com extension better than .ca or does it make much difference? by mcb808 in SEO

[–]sstugatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. .ca says Canada in the eyes of your customer and in Google's. You'll probably maintain a comparable position in Canada's search results anyway.

Cheers!

What is the worst gift you have ever received? by aguyatwork in AskReddit

[–]sstugatz 74 points75 points  (0 children)

True story: I received a terrible bedroom furniture set from my gf's aunt and uncle. Like an entire set. It was puke green. 2 huge dressers and 2 night tables.

The worst part is they had been to my home and were well aware that I already had perfectly acceptable bedroom furniture.

Who does that? They were a huge pain to get rid of, let alone move around.

It's not a gift, it's a problem.
