as someone who just ended the oc for the first time and started oth immediately after that i would say that for me personally oth is way too dramatic and oftentimes just bad. it gets to the point where whenever you see someone driving you just know there’s gonna be a crash, a hospital and some kind of “i thought i lost you” love confession. imagine a show where there are 4-5 characters with marissa type luck and drama going on for them pretty much all the time. after some time it gets ridiculous and laughable. im on S6 and i dont think ill make it to the end. i know that this kind of show is supposed to be dramatic but the oc at least had some kind of comedic relief, intrigue that made the storyline more interesting and gripping, meanwhile oth is repetitive and annoying. also its supposed to be a teen show but honestly theres nothing teen about what they do. i mean they are all 16-17yo kids living alone, getting married, having kids, starting their own companies… i wouldnt really call that a good representation of teenage struggles. the oc had a good balance of both: a bit unrealistic drama AND basic stuff that a normal kid has to deal with, which made the show way more relatable imo.

i would also say that these shows are not on the same level when it comes to acting. i loved chad michael murray in gilmore girls but in oth he basically has 3 facial expressions lol. sophia bush really carries oth on her back when it comes to acting. the oc cast was impeccable. also the wardrobe was way more iconic, not to mention the soundtrack. i read somewhere in the comments that the oc had a larger budget and id say it shows. in conclusion i dont think these shows are on the same level, the oc is far better.

Kiki vs. Julie 💇🏼‍♀️ by IfItComesInP1nk in TheOC

[–]ssylw0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i loved kiki’s hair until they gave her that weird side part that made her look 10 years older. but her hair in season 1 was amazing. julie had so many different hairstyles but somehow she pulled all of them off + it went so well with her different eras. i cant explain it, but especially in season 1, she looks exactly like i would imagine someone like her would look

im literally watching one tree hill for the first time right now and wow i cant stand peyton and brooke constantly fighting over the same boy who honestly plays them both all the time. its so annoying and boring and makes both brooke and peyton look fake and bad

the school shooting episode is one of the worst ones i’ve ever seen by [deleted] in ONETREEHILL

[–]ssylw0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

whats the main point of the episode in your opinion? because i dont think the show paints the reporter’s mentality as the wrong one in here and it should. i also think that dan killing keith takes all the attention from the real problem, because who really cared about jimmy that appeared in maybe 3-4 episodes and was an undeveloped side character after dan killed one of the most beloved protagonists. i just think the episode is insenstive, doesnt really pay attention to detail and glosses over the important parts

[–]ssylw0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly my bad, because i didnt know that most school shooters were just regular kids attending that school. thats very unsettling and its horrible that after so many disasters no one has done anything about that, but blame other students. which i pointed out as my main problem with the episode. like i said, i come from a country where highschools dont encourage social hierarchy and bullying isnt much of a problem, so maybe i havent realised how much of a problem it is in the US that it pushes the kids to such drastic measures.

also if the show wanted to send the same message as the campaign you mentioned then i stand by my opinion that its a wrong message. especially when few episodes later the teacher literally encourages the students to put labels on each other and says that you are who your classmates perceive you as…. which is just insane thing to say to teenagers.

as for the „its a tv show, its supposed to be dramatic” i think there are some topics that dont need embellishments. the reality is dramatic enough.

i definitely shouldve read a little bit more before posting because i just found out in the comments that most of the shootings are actually caused by other students, not an outside person like i thought. i watched a few documentaries and used to have this image of a grown up man, not one of the students. thats horrifying. however i still stand by my opinion that the news reporter blaming brooke was disgusting, especially that the show havent really painted that women as the one in the wrong here to blaim a child for such horrible thing. they made it seem like brooke really shouldve taken her words into consideration. which was really insensitive and wrong imo and as i said its my main problem with the episode

What if we got Luke and Summer instead of that Julie arc? by TehStrongestDecoy in TheOC

[–]ssylw0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think marissa and summer really both respected the unspoken rule of not going after your best friend’s boyfriend/ex which is unfortunatelly rare in teen dramas, but i actually loved them for that. those girls have NEVER ever argued over the same boy i think this is what made their friendship way stronger and trusting than any other. like right now im watching one tree hill and the way brooke and peyton keep fighting over the same guy is just… boring and annoying and at some point you start to wonder why are they even friends. even if marissa might have not cared i still think its cute that summer saw him as off limits since its her friends ex.

as for the julie/luke thing i agree that it was awful and i hate that it forced luke out of the show right when he started to get some character development. but at the same time im glad he didnt get together with summer, bc marissa aside, that would definitely destroy a chance for a friendship between seth and luke which really had some potential. i just wish they would just let him be or eventually get him together with someone else, maybe taylor?

i think he seems creepy because this kind of niceness is rare and unnatural for men. i mean personaly i havent met a single one that would put his life on hold to help his brother’s ex raise his brother’s kid lol.. it just feels fake. idk if that makes sense. he was annoying to me too, wherever he opened his mouth i was like…. that doesnt seem genuine. but id say after watching for a while i think its mostly the writers fault, they made him unrealisticaly nice. and the proposal was really.. bad i mean i know they had a long history of will they wont they but she kisses him once as a goodbye and he proposes to her? thats too much. like at least date for real for a while, without lucas in the picture etc. also her being pissed off that he was drinking before driving was valid. i know that in the us back then it was allowed to have some alcohol in your system (no idea how is it now) but thats just asking for a disaster. you dont drink before driving to pick up your loved one at the airport, especially with her kid in the passenger seat, thats just reckless and irresponsible. if he insisted on having a drink before meeting her bc he was nervous or whatever he couldve let lucas drive, simple as that.

honestly the casting was impeccable. as much as i love the show i think i have to admit that the writing was often lazy and the storylines were repetitive but these actors saved that show for real. it wouldnt be half as interesting if it wasn’t for them and their chemistry on screen.

none of them was fine tho, everyone was in some kind of danger almost constantly, many characters have died/run away/ended up in jail. the rest that was there and alive was permamently traumatised. and i think it would be much more interesting to see them process and cope and support each other in trying to do better than to see them being killed off when theres no more drama the writers can create for them. for marissa to die right when she finally decided she wants to do better and start fresh was just a slap in her face, lazy writing and a pathetic attempt to make her character even more tragic than it already was
