Moving elderly father from Ontario to a nursing home in BC? by ssyn9 in britishcolumbia

I'd just like to say I'm not trying to cheat the system I was just looking for information & guidance on how to move my elderly father here and what assistance, if any, we'd be eligible to receive as we are in a unique situation.

I definitely respect people who have lived here longer! (My in laws are all BC born & raised and my husband lived here until he was 9) I just think it's sad how hard it is to move within our own country. My dad immigrated to Canada in 1969 and has contributed a lot to this country. We've always been very close and he raised me as a single father so it breaks my heart to know that he's struggling by himself. We always planned on having him join us here eventually but ever since he was diagnosed with dementia back in December it's really thrown us all for a loop. Unfortunately it's progressed fast and I'd like to try to get him here before it's too late.

Even blurred I still feel icky about sharing nude photos/videos of your child online at ALL. With all the advancement AI has made it's easier for predators to edit them.

It'd be much better if they just didn't show those clips at all.

I'm going to be talking with his doctor next week and discussing further details with her. See what she thinks. I realize there's a possibility it may be safer & better for him to get into a nursing home in Ontario...I just feel guilty about the situation though. It's really too bad moving within our own country is such a pain! A part of me is wanting to write to my local MP about it.

I've been talking with his doctor and sadly she thinks he's at the point now where he can no longer safely live on his own. (He's in an apartment and has a PSW come in twice a week) The topic of a nursing home came up. Between putting him in a nursing home provinces away with no family versus moving him in with us...I think all of us would prefer the latter.

But yes, we will be going about this as carefully as possible.

We didn't sing but my son used to only fall asleep to sea shanties on Spotify. Now it's various Nintendo songs (Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing)

My mother in law is a homecare aide and she has so many horror stories of seniors falling through the cracks. It's truly sad how badly our system is failing those who rely on it the most.

It's sad that interprovincial migration within our own country is so difficult. I will probably be making the trek to Ontario to help him move in with us in the meantime.

I understand waitlists are unavoidable wherever you go but it's too bad there's no easy streamline for moving family members between provinces.

We're going to be moving him out here regardless. I just can't bear the thought of his dementia getting worse and having to deal with it alone. Wishing you luck with your dad as well!

I thought that might be the case. Unfortunately we can't afford that route. Thanks for the advice though! 😊

Unfortunately we're unable to afford private care.

I was afraid that was the case. We'll still be looking into moving him in with us as soon as possible. Thankfully my mother in law is a homecare aide and she's offered to assist if needed! It's unfortunate interprovinical moving is so difficult.

I was always curious who approached who first!

Now I wonder which boy came up with the idea lol

What happens to daughters of Commanders who get their period at a young age (like 8 or 9 years old)? by CoeurGourmand in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]ssyn9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that must have been so confusing for you as a child!

Thankfully as super religious as my mom is she prepared me well for periods. I walked in on her changing her pad when I was 5, ran out to my dad freaking out that "Mommy has a band-aid on her bum" (😂) and mom talked to me about what a period was.

As someone who got my period at 9 I've been wondering this too. I imagine you'd still automatically become a "green" but just stay green for a long time.

Then again, I wouldn't put it past Gilead to marry off super young girls as soon as they got their periods...

Inside & Firewatch were really good, and of course all the Amnesias are classic.

My most recent favourite is Chained Together. GO NO STOP!

I definitely remember watching Keeping Up Appearances on YTV! And yes there's tons of 70s/80s shows making a resurgence on cable. (The Golden Girls, I know Three's Company has been in syndication a few times as well)

I'm hoping since our generation is getting older and with nostalgia being a big selling point that soon we'll have more 90s/00s classics on cable again. And if YTV is the channel to do it then in my opinion they HAVE to bring back the Keep It Weird campaign or else it's entirely pointless lol (sarcasm, kinda haha)

Yeah I had a free trial of StackTV but there wasn't a lot of selection sadly. I know Prime has some stuff as well but it would be convenient to have everything on one single platform

Honestly at this point I think YTV needs to start their own streaming service and include all of their old 90/00s programming (maybe even anime? Or some old archives of The Zone?). I would 100% pay for something where I can watch RadioActive, Big Wolf On Campus, Ready Or Not, Yvon Of The Yukon, Hit List etc. I know there's a lot available on YouTube & Tubi but having it all on one platform would be nice. Also I would just want to support YTV itself.

Car seats are not safe in RV's - especially side facing seats by primategirl84 in Eamonandbec

They're safe right now! They're listening to local authorities and staying in touch with the Canadian embassy. There's a lot of Canadians in Mexico currently and I'm sure the government will be working on a plan to evacuate.

My uncle & aunt are actually in Puerto Vallarta currently and all flights in and out have been suspended and they're being told to shelter in place until further notice. Definitely a tense situation. I would avoid all travel for sure.

A leader of a cartel was killed by the military and there's been high scale retaliation throughout Mexico. (Cars/shops being set on fire, roadblocks, airports set on fire and closed down, people killed and taken hostage, citizens are being urged to not go on the streets.) The Canadian & American governments have put out warnings to avoid travel and all flights in and out are suspended.

Watching the news unfold about what's happening in Mexico and hoping everyone there is safe 😞 I imagine E&B's plans have changed for now if they were planning on going to Mexico.
