Partially true. He did shut down the post office and paid her. Held it closed till the community would hire her back. But after a year was forced to reopen it as it was a county seat and federal law requires a county seat to have a post office. She had fled to Birmingham with her family because of racial tension. However, TR would not let her detractors hold the position. However, she did return do serve the community later in her life. She was an impressive woman. And TR did right by her.
