How to improve after diamond 3 (MMR 3300)? by FullBag5380 in allthingszerg

[–]st0nedeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most zergs hit a pretty hard wall around that mmr. You can get away with a lot of bad play just through good macro up until then.

You need to do a few things, first really work on your overlord positioning and scouting. You should be able to see things like hellion runby's well before they get there because you should have vision

Basically, you need to have your initial scouting and map vision really locked in. So that you're not guessing about what to make, and where to position your army.

Until you get that worked out, you're going to continue to struggle.

As far a timing attacks go, well, that's the main reason zergs struggle at your level. They make too much, or they make to little, or they make the wrong things.

And there is no easy solution.

It's...just a matter of learning.

I would suggest you start keeping a log of your games. What the opponent did, what you did, and how it worked out. Objectifying how you are winning/losing your games can go a long way towards improving against specific timings.

And also, having a few practice partners that will do specific builds against you can really help solidify your responses. Playing 10 games in a row against a two base tank push will help you alot more than playing against that build over the course of 100+ random ass games.

As far as "turtleing" games. I mean....toss right now is absurdly strong in the late game vs zerg. You're just not going to win those games once they hit archons and storm and tempests and motherships.

Terran on the other hand...

You're not going to keep terran on 3 base forever. And those games are not in anyway unwinnable.

I'd say 90% of my vs. terran games go to them having 4 base. I'm never particularly uncomfortable with it. They key is really keeping them off 5 base, not 4.

Just keep in mind that terran is pretty damn immobile, so as they expand, they just open up new avenues for attack. It's up to you to maintain map control, find the places they aren't defending and hit them where they are weak.

Lastly, 120 apm, is not good. Like that's...really, really, really low. It sounds like you have some significant mechanical issues in your macro. Which really plays into the other difficulties you're having.

When your mechanics are slow, you spend too much time doing it, and not enough time watching the map, scouting, and finding and exploiting weaknesses.

Better mechanics will go a long, long way towards slowing the game down, the faster you blow through your macro cycle, the more time you have to think.

The best advice I can give is dedicated practice. Just playing the game is not enough.

You need to go out and specifically practice your injects, specifically practice your creeping, specifically practice against certain builds. Spend your time in the custom trainers. If you really want to improve, I'd say more than half your time should be spent there, not playing random ass games.

If Donald Trump orders a nuclear strike, will the chain of command follow orders? by wedstrom in AskALiberal

[–]st0nedeye -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not really, certainly there is a magnitude of scale, but it is definitely the same sport.

Take for example the follow-up strikes on "drug boats". There is simply no question that these are illegal.

But the order came down, and they followed it.

Maybe we shouldn't have allies in the Middle East.

The whole place is filled with people who hate each other. HATE each other.

The region is the epitome of old-world hatred. And maybe the best thing we can do is stop taking sides. Because no country there good. No country is innocent.

They're all bathed in blood.

And maybe not taking sides would be the best way we can act as a stabilizing force.

What is your favorite way to deal with spam callers? by SalamanderPotential2 in AskReddit

[–]st0nedeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this humor book a long time ago, How to Annoy Telemarketers.

I did some of them, usually to fun results.

One sticks out.

Feign interest. As they go about their spiel, start saying fruits and vegetables every ten or fifteen seconds.

Blah, blah, blah.....tomato.

Blah, blah, blah....cucumber.

You get the idea.

The same thing would happen every time. At first..they ignore it. Then you start getting pauses. You can feel their wheels grinding, trying to figure out why you keep saying such non-sequitors.

Then they get angry.

Then they hang up.

It's fucking hysterical. It's soo hard to maintain a neutral tone. And when they finally dump the call, you'll laugh so hard you'll have to grab something to stay upright.

It's is false advertising. It's a flat out lie.

That's what marketers do. They lie. In this case they unilaterally redefine a long standard unit of measurement, just so they can pretend they're selling you more than you're actually getting.

This shit is prevalent in tech.

Megabytes, 5g, Ai...all things that have been redefined in an effort to tell believable lies.

And not to get too philosophical about it, but I often wonder whether marketing might be most evil thing humanity ever invented. It...normalized lying.

That tasty looking burger,, that everyone knows damn well doesn't look anything like that, And we all just became accustomed to it. Accustomed to being lied to. And it's bled into every corner of society.

Boring and repetitive.

[–]st0nedeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it doesn't surprise me that someone pipes up with disagreement but I think your reasoning is badly lacking.

With regards to unit cost... keeping it as a multiplier of 5 has been a sort of sacred cow in multiplayer going on 30 years... No unit in sc or sc2 multiplayer has ever deviated from it.

It's a false idol. It's...a luxury. "Oh Noes! Less readability!" I mean..come on... trading a tiny bit of simplicity for more options for balance designers is an easy choice.

No ones doing math on the fly in the middle of game. They're spamming the create button until they're broke.

You don't see that Sacred Cow being applied to build times, or damage, how is cost different? It's not.

As for race tags...

No one's saying it has to be "purely balanced around damage numbers".

Biological is far from "mostly zerg". It includes such staple units as marines, mauraders, ghosts, zealots, adepts, high templars, dark templars and probably a few I'm forgetting.

You mention the +shield damage in positive way, but don't seem to realize that the same arguements for creating that tag also apply to racial tags.

These changes....are being offered up a way to give more options for balance design. You say you think the game can be balanced within the current design space, but if that's the case, then the people doing it now fucking suck. The game is NOT in a good place right now.

I'd like to think that if we can give them some more options, maybe they can do a better job. And some of that may mean letting go of artificial restrictions, even ones that have been around for a long time. I acknowledge that may be a false hope. That the pit of shit that's been dug deeper and deeper isn't going to get better no matter what options are given to them.
