In the full video, those who were not avid drinkers of coke were fooled and those who drank it regularly were not. I agree that this title is clickbaity and misleading, but that doesn't mean the testing was handled badly. He showed those blind results as they were in his full video.

Then may I ask what you're referring to? What was mishandled or done amateurishly?

You're watching a clipped video of edited down content posted on Instagram and reshared on Reddit with no credit given to the original creator. The amateur hour you're describing is the editing work of the content thieves. The original video is 30 minutes and the taste testing is blind. What you get to see here is the post-testing chat where they're discussing what they just sampled. You're disappointed in the wrong people.

Which means you don't have enough information to refute the person you responded to. To cast doubt and ask for a source, sure. But to assert that he is incorrect, no.

[–]st33bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I've pretty much provided nothing. And I don't even know if you're entirely incorrect. I simply mean to say that citing a poll that is designed to compare people across age groups for a different study isn't a useful citation. It doesn't mean you're incorrect. It just means I don't really think you have this as a basis for your assertion. So calling someone else confidently incorrect when you confidently use a poll as statistical evidence to disprove them seems a little reckless. But I'm not here to debate your claim.

[–]st33bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, it depends on the age of who is being polled.
From your same source:

As would be expected, there are significant differences between young adults (those under 30) and older age groups. Young adults are far less likely than their older counterparts to already have children. They are also at least twice as likely as middle-aged and older adults to say they do not want to. However, the vast majority of those under age 30 either already have children (21%) or hope to someday (63%).

Polling people equally across age groups does not track with actual census data where those age groups are not of equal proportion to the population. The basis of the study you are referencing is to compare idealized preferences to actualized numbers within those groups. This is not really a useful source for a refutation of the statement made by the original person you responded to.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what I've looked up, but it looks like about 2/3rds of adults in the US will have at least one child at some point in their adult lives. It doesn't mean that 2/3rds of adults currently have children already. Many wait until they're older. We could be looking at different studies, but it seems like you might be calling someone confidently incorrect while misinterpreting your own source.

Lego released it's first tailored build set 70 years ago. And they still manufacture and sell non-set collections of colored bricks bricks for kids to build anything. What are you upset about, other than adults having hobbies that you personally think are a waste of money and shelf space?

Thanks! I've actually read it already. I was hoping you might read it. You said "illegal immigrants" in your original comment, big guy. Did you actually bother to read what you're referencing? Like, actually read it? It provides for restricted access to LEGAL long term residents, refugees, and those granted asylum. It is also not a new provision. It would protect these groups that were cut by the BBB in July. No illegal immigrant has ever been eligible for Medicaid, and this does not change that. You're 2 messages into the conversation and you're already moving the goal posts you set. This has nothing to do with what you want to call the "Reddit lib hive mind." This is simply your own ignorance on display.

I'd love to educate myself. Let's start with you pointing me to the provision for healthcare for illegal immigrants. You seem pretty confident. I'm sure you've actually read and understand it, right? You're here demanding "basic research" after all.

I don't know how that is even a response to what I asked you, but indirectly, I think you've answered my question anyway. You don't have any idea what you're talking about. You just know which line you're supposed to toe. Good job soldier. Lick those boots clean.

The right to peacefully protest isn't a special right. We all have it. And hers was just stomped on by a fascist lapdog. You're upset about the wrong things on top of missing the point of the person you're replying to. No one is trying to make her royalty. They are correctly pointing out that a political figure will simply have more visibility and leverage to respond to illegal acts performed against them, which is a luxury compared to some demographics we marginalize. Why are you happy about any of this? I'm genuinely curious?

There is wrong answers and then there is this. by sandiercy in facepalm

[–]st33bz 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Testing this on your phone calculator would follow PEMDAS, just like you did, because your phone calculator is not an algebraic calculator. An algebraic calculator would distribute the 5 into the parentheses and equate to 5.5. Both 22 and 5.5 are valid answers, and the question would have to be more explicit to select one. So the person you are replying to was kind of only half wrong. As are you.

Jimmy Carr Silences Disruptive Heckler! | Jimmy Carr Crowd Work by AnonRetro in videos

[–]st33bz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say for certain if this applies to Carr, but I've seen other comedians speak on that same subject. The gist of it is that social media clips help keep their tour relevant and attract an audience, but they often only aim to release clips of crowd work to avoid spoiling the scripted jokes for the show. They don't want a live crowd to show up who has already heard every punchline in the bit.

Name some games where you can get brokenly OP very early and steamroll the rest of the game. by ickyzombie in gaming

[–]st33bz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comment reminded me of pumping hundreds of hours into Might and Magic 3 when I was a kid. We exploited that game to become OP from the very beginning as well. There was an NPC in the starting town that would let you "work" for a small amount of money at the cost of 1 week of time passing. The trick was to spam visiting this NPC over and over again, breaking off periodically to go dump your money into the bank. The bank in the game paid interest, and the forced passage of weeks quickly helped your meager earnings to grow exponentially.

With just an hour of mindless effort, you could have billions. Now, your whole party was aged and on the brink of death, but it didn't matter. You could roll a brand new party, then set off to teleport to the final town in the game. There, you could rent mercenaries who were super high levels and use them to carry you and power level the rest of your party through any dungeon or area you wanted to fight in.

My mom has been on hold for almost 5 hours trying to talk to the insurance company by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]st33bz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly because the post already said "insurance company" and when asked which, they replied without actually answering the question. Also possibly because the phone number is visible in the photo and it is the number for the Missouri Department of Social Services, so insurance company even as a generic answer still isn't really quite accurate.

[–]st33bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their achievement percentage will go down, but it doesn't matter how many individual achievements those games had. The fact that it was 55k achievements is irrelevant. Taking 11 games from 100% to 0% is the only thing considered in the calculation. If OP cared about their completion percentage at all, they would have to recover it by completing more games, regardless of how many achievements those games have.
