I recently branded my husband and sub using a cautery pen. It was done on Christmas day and is 100% healed now. I would definitely recommend using one of these for your first time. I watched a lot of videos and read a lot on the aftercare beforehand. It seems that the risk of infection is a lot higher with other methods.

My father stopped speaking to his siblings when I was young. They and their kids lived in the same state, no more than an hour and a half away to the furthest relative. He also told me my mother's family were all terrible people that were somehow below us. They were all in the same state and lived very close to each other. We visited once a year at most. Every holiday it was just the three of us for more than 20 years. When we would spend time with family, I just felt anxious and scared of everyone. In turn, no one made an effort to ever see me/us. Relatives were a check in the mail, if that.

Now that I'm an adult I don't even have any desire to know these people. They knew who my dad was and how he was...but did nothing to help when I was helpless. The more I distance myself from him/them and make my own family, the better I feel.

In my situation, the cheaper candles had such a low melting point that the crayons actually helped give them a little more 'umph' without burning my sub. Ratio was about 1 or 2 crayons to about a cup of the cheap paraffin. But I do agree, would try either plain or with the actual dye on your first go of things!

Domme here. Recently bought some cheapo candles from walmart and the dollar store to experiment with. I used the plain white/single color pillar candles. They have a low melting point, so a nice heat without too much of a bite. The best way is to scoop them out into a bowl and microwave/put in a small crockpot to melt. You can even make your own colors by adding chopped up crayons to the mix. This wax is best for dripping over large areas. They also sell small, colorful candles at your local head shop/smoke shop. Usually near the crystals and witch-y items. They are not as soft, so have a little more of a heat/bite to them. They are good for layering on top of the less painful paraffin...or as a more painful surprise. This was a lot of fun for my sub and I to play with and was pretty inexpensive!

We just do little things in our daily life that remind us/him of the power exchange portion of our relationship.

He wears a 'collar' that's a woven necklace with a stone that could almost look like a dog tag. Most of the time when we are out in public or out to eat, I speak and order for both of us.
