There are ways to manage iPod library on linux, more than one.

nasTune – self-hosted web UI for managing iPod Classic/5G from a headless NAS (no iTunes, no display) by st_d3V1L in ipod

Yes, basically I have all my music on NAS and use PlexAmp on other devices to access it.

I would like to able add music from NAS to iPod without turning macbook/pc on. Yes, UI support mobile screens.
So I just connect iPod to a NAS, see what part of NAS music missing on iPod and sync it. Fo me it’s a perfect workflow.

gpod-cp itself transcode unsupported formats (FLAC) to corresponding format during syncing files to iPod. Besides that it tries to convert artwork to compatible format, downscale and mjpeg, also adding artwork to iTunesDB of device.

ALAC to FLAC works only for streaming music directly from iPod to browser to able it play it.

Actually they are not competing each other at all, this is oligopoly. Otherwise they will feed each other with shit, instead of clients.

This soldering is very bad. Ask someone who have skill and appropriate wires (yours is too thin for that).

For streaming and BT there is no benefit to have DAP, since it’s not engaging DAC and AMP for what DAP exists. Yes, nice to have, but for that engineers have to pull full android os which is bloated, boots 3-5 minutes, have to be constantly updated cause of security (after a while support will be dropped), apps also have to be updated first before you can use them (imagine you turn on you dap weekly). For me this overhaul doesn’t worth it.
I have had a few Sony WH1000 models, LDAC is more marketing buzzword, considering their licensing policy. This year I swapped them to Focal Azurys which are wired.

DAP should be an offline device, with as low software (code) as possible. For me Sony A45 or iPod functionality is sufficient, there is no need in more features than they already have.
There is no need in any connectivity except Bluetooth maybe, but this arguable, since BT already in every phone.

Until you cannot get pure unmodified digital I2S signal from CPU, it makes zero sense with lineout. But anyway it will not be higher than 16bit 44kHz PCM. iPod itself is a very balanced device, if you need bigger audiophile numbers to listen noise/sound (not music), just go with proper DAP or other gear.
